The Capital Area YMCA is looking for enthusiastic, creative, and caring Summer Day Camp Counselors to inspire young minds and build memorable experiences at our Summer Day Camp programs. If you have open availability this summer and would like to work between 20-40 hours per week and have weekends off, this is the perfect job for you.
Summer Day Camp Jr. Counselors lead various activities that aim to give children a well-rounded experience. Activities include physical play, teamwork, building positive relationships, and much more! You will provide enriching, safe, and memorable experiences to hundreds of campers. You will help campers gain a sense of achievement, build friendships, and find their sense of belonging either in Trenton Camp at the Capital Area YMCA or our location at Rider University.
Description
The Jr. Counselor serves as a seasonal employee of the Capital Area YMCA summer camp staff team. Jr. Camp Counselors play an integral role in the execution of the daily and weekly schedule of activities for children between the ages of 3-15. Under the direction of the Summer Camp Director and the camp leadership team, the Junior Counselor is responsible for assisting with the overall program, supervision of children and day-to-day operation of the Y Camp program.
Primary Responsibilities:
· Follow general direction and perform other duties as assigned of by the Day Camp Director, Assistant Camp Director and/or designated direct supervisor.
· Ensure the individual needs of the children are met within the program guidelines.
· Maintain positive relationships with many diverse people, including staff, parents, volunteers and program site administration and demonstrate strong public relation skills.
· Ensure YMCA policies and guidelines are followed at all times.
· Maintain an environment that ensures children’s safety and well-being.
· Responsible for the maintenance of equipment/supplies, cleanliness of camp site
· You can work Monday through Friday, shifts between the hours of 7:00 am – 6:00 pm (Shifts vary per location).
· Perform other related duties as assigned.
· 8 week camp season runs June 23, 2025-August 15, 2025.
· Must be available for a Training on June 14, 2025 from 9am-2pm at 431 Pennington Ave Trenton.
· There will be other additional trainings as well.

Requirements
· Must be able to work the full 8 weeks of camp.
· Must be at least 16 years of age; experience working with children is a plus.
· Employees under age 18 must be able to provide fully authorized working papers.
· Must complete the required 2024 Camp Staff Training Program and new hire packet prior to first working day.
· Must be energetic, fun and enjoy working with kids.
· Must work outdoors at times and also on pool days.
· Must represent the YMCA’s core values of caring, honesty, responsibility and respect.
· Has positive communications and interaction with children, parents and staff.
· Assists Counselor I and II.
· Prepare needed materials and supplies for each day’s activities.
· Communicate problems, issues or concerns with supervisor.
· Must be willing to substitute in any camp group with flexibility and a positive attitude.
· Know where children are at all times.
· Responsible for quality customer service-including greeting parents.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
· Regular walking, reaching, bending, lifting, and standing.
· Must be able to get in the pool.
· Must be able to routinely lift 10 lbs.
