POSITION SUMMARY:
Under the guidance of the Summer Day Camp Director, the Summer Day Camp Coordinator will oversee the general function, supervision, safety, and programming for the YMCA Day Camp. Daily functions include supervision of staff and children to ensure the safety of all program participants.
In addition, every position in the YMCA of Coastal Georgia, Inc. is responsible for upholding the Judeo-Christian principles that are central to our mission by modeling behaviors that exemplify the four pillars of character - caring, honesty, respect, and responsibility.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Providing curriculum materials and projects for arts and crafts
- Participation in and supervision of field trips
- Oversee field trip information including schedules, emergency files, and registrations
- Maintain accurate sign-in/sign-out sheets
- Create staff schedules and lead staff meetings as required
- Provide daily camp group rotations for counselors and their groups
- Establish, coordinate, and provide group listings and attendance sheets to counselors
- Positively interact with all program participants and parents of program participants
- Oversee general camp clean-up and overall camp facility conditions
- Supervise Summer Day Camp counselors and provide written and verbal instruction for daily programming of activities
- Assist in the overall retention and satisfaction of YMCA members through appropriate customer service
- Assist in the Annual Campaign fundraising program for the YMCA
- Maintain a positive and cheerful attitude with staff, peers, and program participants
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
The Summer Day Camp Coordinator is responsible for the daily direction, coordination, and evaluation of this program. Responsibilities include training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; and addressing complaints and resolving problems.
QUALIFICATIONS/CERTIFICATIONS:
- Minimum high school diploma required; associate degree preferred.
- Sound working knowledge of child development issues.
- Ability to develop and implement various age-appropriate activities.
- Ability to foster positive staff, parent, and child relations.
- Ability to supervise multiple part-time and full-time staff.
- CPR and First Aid required within 30 days of employment.
- Must be able to pass a criminal background check and obtain authorization to work with children under the Georgia Department of Labor and YMCA guidelines.
