POSITION SUMMARY:
This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. Under the direction of the Youth Development Director, this position provides safe direction and supervision during sign in/our and transportation of children during summer camp programming to and from program sites and activity locations. May also provide support in other areas as assigned. Typical hours 6:50-9:30am and 3:30-5:15pm Monday through Friday - split shift.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Checks children in and out of programming daily according to YMCA safety policies and procedures.
- Supervises children; keep site and sound supervision and ensures loading, riding and unloading bus safely according to YMCA policies and procedures and state laws.
- Plans and facilitates group games and activities during drop off and pick up times.
- Ensures that bus rules are announced and followed.
- Develops and maintains friendly and positive relationships among staff, volunteers, parents, and children. Communicates program information with families daily. Models relationship-building skills (including Listen First) in all interactions.
- Communicates regularly with other staff members and supervisor.
- Follows YMCA policies and procedures, including those related to medical and disciplinary situations, supervision, incident reports, child abuse prevention and emergencies, completing appropriate paperwork when needed.
- Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications
- Must be at least 18 years old.
- Child Abuse/BBP/Sexual Harassment Prevention training completed before start of 1st shift. CPR, 1st Aid, AED, & Oxygen completed within 60 days.
- Ability to lead, organize and implement activities in a variety of settings, including outdoors and on a bus.
- Must be able to improvise when unexpected circumstances occur.
- Must be able to remain active, energetic and positive.
- Must be able to attend mandatory summer camp training May 27-30, 2025.
- Must be able to work summer camp season June 2-August 1, 2025.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Two to three years child care or related experience and relevant experience in supervision and administration of youth programs, preferably in a day camp setting.
WORK ENVIRONMENT & PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
- Ability to frequently stand, sit, walk, talk, hear, type, run, jump, kick, catch, throw, climb, kneel, bend, reach, balance, crouch or crawl, climb and/or balance, reach with hands and arms, handle or feel, stoop, lift/move and carry approximately 35 lbs, and use hands and fingers. Must be able to lift and/or maneuver large gym or office equipment. Special vision abilities required distance, peripheral, depth perception and ability to adjust focus. May be required to be outside for long periods of time. Must possess good analytical, auditory, and verbal capabilities in order to communicate adequately. Must be able to get into swimming pool.
