Young Rembrandts offers after-school art classes for kids. Our early learner, elementary and cartoon drawing classes complement and expand existing art programs in local schools. Young Rembrandts provides all materials, top-quality instructors, and curriculum for weekly drawing classes. Our classes are built to be fun, and children who participate in Young Rembrandts local art classes increase overall academic skills, fine motor skills, social skills, and confidence.

Job Responsibilities :

  • Work part-time hours (4-8 hours / week).
  • Aide Young Rembrandt’s Learn to Draw after-school classes in local elementary schools between the hours of 2p-5p.
  • Follow Young Rembrandts’ curriculum and teaching guidelines.
  • Flexibility to adapt teaching methods based on student needs.
  • Passion for coaching children through the fundamentals of drawing.
  • Motivate groups of children and guide their behavior in a classroom environment.
  • Demonstrate patience, empathy, and the ability to work with diverse populations.
  • Assist with the management of a classroom of up to 20 students ages 5y-12y.
  • Demonstrate strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Maintain accurate records (attendance, dismissal, class rosters, etc.)
  • Value teamwork and collaborate with other instructors / staff.
  • Utilize technology : Dropbox, Google Docs, email, website, social media, apps, etc.
  • Working mobile phone for scheduling, messaging, and photos.
  • Print up-to-date rosters for each school.
  • Teacher Aide Specific Duties :

  • BE PROACTIVE!!
  • Assist with preparing room, passing out pencils, papers, erasers, coloring materials, etc.
  • Take down displays if applicable.
  • Assist in passing out last week’s art to kids (at the beginning or end of an elementary school class).
  • Walk around room. Check for who needs assistance. Paper orientation, check first 2 steps – proportional? Students need help with the actual shape, etc.
  • Positively redirect / encourage students that are falling behind or need assistance.
  • Remind students why we do “coloring technique / coloring order”.  If needed, explain coloring technique and color order again.
  • Positive redirection! Remind students of class rules, redirect the extra chatty, out of seats, not raising hands, etc. (Lead teacher determines preference).
  • Assist students with color choices, pencil sharpening, erasers, locate a certain color, select construction paper colors.
  • As coloring is finished and the Young Rembrandts instructor approves completed work, the teacher aide can begin mounting the drawings on construction paper.
  • Assist with dismissal. Lead the group out alongside the Young Rembrandts instructor OR stay in the room and begin cleaning up.
  • Assist with hanging the student’s artwork in the designated display area.
  • Physical Requirements : This description is intended to indicate the types of tasks and levels of difficulty that is required of a Young Rembrandts Art Instructor.

  • Must be responsible for packing, handling, lifting, and loading into a vehicle a supply cart (on wheels) with a weight capacity of up to 40 lbs. for each class.
  • Some school locations do involve stairs, and the supply cart must be able to be handled accordingly.
  • Must be able to stand and walk around a classroom for at least 90 minutes.
