What are the responsibilities and job description for the Telecom Fiber Splicer I - FTTH/Telecom position at Young s Communications LLC?
The Technical Services Splicer I will be responsible for the terminating, splicing, documenting, and testing of all fiber optic lines within the customer’s network. The Splicer I will report to the Technical Services Manager.
Must live in the UP, Michigan area, if not be willing to do a work rotation of 30/5
Duties & Responsibilities
- Responsible for customer premise installations, including racking, cabling, bonding, and grounding
- Perform ring cuts on live fiber without affecting existing services
- Perform fiber tests with OTDRs, light sources, and meters
- Terminate, splice, bonds/grounds, and tests fiber optic equipment to division standards
- Provide accurate equipment location, splicing, and terminating records for the fiber database
- Perform installation of fiber optic equipment and patch and panels
- Monitor, communicate and perform corrective actions to fix problems affecting any fiber or fiber-related equipment
- Install enclosures and other telecom equipment
- Perform as the subject-matter expert when assigned to a project
- Quality control of work completed
- Be involved in pre-construction meetings with potential sub-contractors
- Manage the scope of work among sub-contractors and in-house crews
- Review and submit a weekly report of scope completed in the company’s software
- Other projects or duties as assigned
- Must have experience with the following equipment: fusion splicer, mechanical splicer, OTDR, power meters, traffic identifiers, digital multi-meters, cleavers, strippers, buffer tube splitters, cable ring tools, hand tools, toners, duct rodders, ladders, bucket trucks, etc.
- Must have experience in modern Fiber Splicing Techniques for the Telecommunications Industry
- Must complete I-9 E-verify form; pass a drug screen; pass a background check and complete new hire orientation and safety videos
- Excellent organizational skills
- Excellent written and oral communications skills
- Ability to read fiber design maps
- Ability to travel/live on site of the project
- Ability to supervise and oversee sub-crews
- Knowledge of aerial and underground construction
- Ability to prioritize and delegate activities
- Ability to perform Quality Control checks of work completed
- Valid driver's license required and ability to pass MVR check
Physical Requirements
- Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer
- May experience long hours of standing and moving
- Wear proper safety apparel, which includes: hard hats (when exiting the truck on any worksite) where required, DOT reflective work vest, and proper footwear (boots)
- Ability to lift and carry up to 75lbs, able to work in a non-climate controlled environment. Possible working in inclement weather standing and driving for extended periods of time
- Ability to perform tasks that require standing, kneeling, squatting, bending, sitting, reaching, lifting, pushing, pulling, driving, and walking
- Ability to work outside in the elements and endure extreme weather conditions
- Ability to utilize hand tools, identify wire size/color and accurately utilize measuring devices
- Ability to complete tasks with small components and wires
