Job Summary
An admissions consultant works with an individual student to help with their
application for getting into a program at a specific college or university. As an
admissions consultant, you help guide the student toward the right school, the right
programs, and the right career based on the students educational interests and goals.
You recommend how to word parts of an application, when to apply, and what can help a student stands out from the crowd. In this job, your duties and responsibilities focus on getting the student into the school or program that he or she desires through one-on-one 1-hr meeting with the student.
Job Responsibility
Meet with students and parents monthly to review academic and extracurricular
plans
Manage academic, standardized tests, and extracurricular plans.
Coach and guide 12th-grade students through the entire college preparation
process including selecting colleges, developing essays ideas, and completing
all requirements needed to submit the college application
Lead weekly essay workshops for seniors during application season (August –
December).
Maintain open and regular line of communication with students and parents
Host webinars on college admission/academic related topics.
Perform research on extracurricular activities (volunteering, summer programs,
special projects)
Brainstorm and edit college application essays and summer program essays
Coach students through independent projects (non-profit, small business,
community workshop, etc)
Qualifications:
- Minimum of a Bachelor's Degree from a top university.
- Graduate degree(s) preferred although not required.
- Past experience in academic counseling required.
- Strong interpersonal, communication and organizational skills.
- Experience as a college counselor is preferred.
- Solid follow-through skills and detail oriented.
