Overview: The Young Voters Association (YVA) is a forward-thinking organization dedicated to empowering young people (ages 16-25) to engage in civic life. By providing innovative tools, platforms, and advocacy opportunities, YVA creates spaces where youth can actively shape political, social, and community issues. As Vice President, you will play a crucial leadership role in guiding YVA’s strategic direction, managing key initiatives, and expanding the organization’s impact on youth engagement across the country.
Responsibilities:
- Strategic Leadership: Collaborate with the President and Board to develop and execute the organization’s strategic vision and long-term goals.
- Program Oversight: Supervise and provide guidance for YVA's programs, such as Civic Engagement workshops, Youth Policy Hackathons, and "Artivism" initiatives, ensuring they align with YVA's mission and objectives.
- Team Management: Lead and mentor a diverse team of staff, interns, and volunteers, fostering a positive and inclusive organizational culture. Encourage innovation, collaboration, and accountability.
- Stakeholder Engagement: Develop relationships with key stakeholders, including youth organizations, political leaders, nonprofits, and potential donors. Represent YVA at conferences, panel discussions, and networking events.
- Partnership Development: Strengthen existing partnerships and establish new collaborations with schools, youth groups, community organizations, and political entities.
- Resource Mobilization: Oversee fundraising and resource development efforts to ensure financial sustainability. Work with the fundraising team to secure grants, sponsorships, and other sources of funding.
- Public Advocacy & Communications: Serve as a key spokesperson for YVA, promoting its mission and initiatives through media appearances, op-eds, public speaking engagements, and digital content.
- Policy Influence: Advocate for policies that support youth engagement, voting rights, and other issues that directly impact young people. Ensure that YVA remains a key voice in relevant political and civic discussions.
- Evaluation & Growth: Monitor the success and impact of programs and initiatives, using data and feedback to drive continuous improvement and growth.
Qualities/Experience We’re Looking For:
- Proven Leadership Experience: Significant experience in a leadership role, ideally within a nonprofit, youth advocacy, political, or civic engagement organization. Experience managing teams and leading strategic initiatives is essential. - Project Management Expertise: Strong organizational skills with a proven ability to manage complex projects and initiatives, overseeing multiple moving parts simultaneously.
- Advocacy & Policy Expertise: Knowledge of key issues affecting youth, such as voting rights, mental health, and education policy. Understanding of the policy-making process and how to advocate for systemic change.
- Tech-Savvy: Familiarity with digital tools and platforms that can engage young people in civic life, including social media, apps, and virtual events.
- Preferred Experience:Experience with grassroots organizing and community-based advocacy efforts.
- Familiarity with the challenges and opportunities facing young voters in different regions and demographics.
- Background in political science, sociology, public policy, or a related field.
