Position Overview

The Director of Advancement is a key member of the senior leadership team, responsible for ensuring the financial health of the organization through strategic fundraising and development efforts. Reporting directly to the CEO, this individual will lead donor engagement, grant acquisition, annual campaigns, major and planned giving, and events. The Director will also serve as the primary liaison to the Board of Directors' Fund Development Committee, ensuring their successful involvement in fundraising initiatives.

This is a demanding and rewarding role that requires a strategic, collaborative leader who can set the direction for advancement while working closely with program leaders, staff, volunteers, and donors.

Key Responsibilities

Fundraising Leadership

Design and execute a comprehensive development plan for fundraising, focusing on donor engagement, events, grants, and individual and major gifts.

  • Meet or exceed annual fundraising goals to support the organization's mission-driven programs.
  • Collaborate with the CEO to develop and implement strategies for increasing revenue from annual campaigns.

Donor Relations and Stewardship

Cultivate and maintain relationships with donors, volunteers, board members, and community stakeholders.

  • Work with the marketing team to create effective stewardship calendars, campaign materials, and donor engagement communications.
  • Board and Team Collaboration

    Serve as the staff liaison to the Board of Directors' Fund Development Committee, supporting board members in achieving their fundraising objectives.

  • Work collaboratively with program leadership to align fundraising goals with organizational priorities.
  • Operational Excellence

    Create and manage an annual calendar of fundraising and communication activities.

  • Oversee the utilization and optimization of the donor management system (CRM).
  • Supervise and support direct reports, fostering their professional growth.
  • Financial Oversight and Reporting

    Monitor revenue progress and provide regular updates to the CEO and Board.

  • Uphold the highest ethical standards in all fundraising and management practices.
  • Qualifications & Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in nonprofit management, business administration, marketing, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in nonprofit development, fundraising, or a related role.
  • Demonstrated success in meeting or exceeding fundraising goals.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to build and maintain relationships.
  • Knowledge of grant writing and proposal development.
  • Proficiency in donor management systems.
  • Familiarity with nonprofit finance and compliance.
  • Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Master's degree in nonprofit management, business administration, marketing, or a related field.
  • Strategic thinker with exceptional organizational and project management skills.
  • Strong expertise in grant writing and proposal development.
