Job Description

Salem Academy Charter School (SACS) is a nationally ranked urban charter school north of Boston, MA offering a rigorous college preparatory program to nearly 500 students in grades 6-12. Since 2004, SACS has been committed to serving the diverse population of Salem. Through a unique integration of rigorous college preparatory classes with service to the community, Salem Academy graduates informed, articulate and proactive individuals of strong character.

What You’ll Do :

Develop and implement curriculum aligned with MA Curriculum Frameworks.
Differentiating instruction.
Support, plan and / or co-lead Service-Learning projects.
Advise students through daily Connections class (homeroom).
Input academic and behavioral data on the school data management system.
Analyze student data and monitor student progress through standards-based assessments.
Offer extracurricular programs in music (e.g. band).
Teach a variety of electives courses for grades 6-12 such as general music, chorus, keyboard, guitar, and band or strings instruments (preferably both).
Support school events such as the City of Salem’s Haunted Happenings Parade and school musicals.

Ability to provide a structured, orderly, safe, and respectful environment for students.

Experience working with a diverse student body.

Experience teaching general music, chorus, piano, and either band or strings instruments (preferably both).

Excitement about integrating academics with service work.

Interest in working collaboratively to improve instruction for all students.

Possession of Massachusetts Teacher Certification or successful completion of the MTEL.

Preference will be given to candidates that meet all of the requirements above, and :

Are multilingual including in Spanish and English.

Have designed and successfully implemented culturally responsive curriculum.

Have similar life experiences as our students.

Have a Master’s, PhD or EdD degree.

Have National Board Certification.
