Summary of Position
Position Information
Oversees maintenance, safety, and cleanliness of performance and storage facilities.
Hires, trains, and supervises Scene Shop personnel, including those students working in the shop for practicum.
Supervises and assists student support staff and crews in technical theater.
Works with production team, especially set designer and other department theatre faculty and staff, in providing technical support for events in 400-seat proscenium theater, 200-seat arena theater, and other alternative performance spaces, including realization of all scenic designs for the University Theatre season.
Oversees and coordinates inventory; order supplies, equipment; manage and maintain consumable resources and supplies, including major purchases, and negotiate rental packages of scenery stock.
Acts as liaison with contract scenic and lighting designers.
Assists with coordination of equipment moves for performances and events.
Serves as liaison for outside companies and agencies.
Coordinates and implements non-departmental use of department spaces in consultation with Cliffe College Coordinator of Community Engagement and Events and the department chair/producer.
Oversees general maintenance and repair or coordinate an outside service for upkeep and repair as necessary, of tools, equipment and spaces pertaining to the Scene Shop and Wood Shop in Bliss Hall.
Provides Scene Shop and Wood Shop safety instructions and applicable health & safety training for students, faculty, and staff utilizing studio facilities, including student workers and assistants.
Other Functions and Responsibilities: Attends meetings and participates on committees and workgroups as appropriate.
Works within a flexible schedule requiring forty-hours per week, typically Monday through Friday with occasional weekends.
Hours may vary in consideration of university class schedules, deliveries, building maintenance and other departmental needs.
Acts as liaison with the Office of Environmental and Occupational Health and Safety.
Assists with training new hires.
Performs other related duties as assigned.
Equipment Operated: Computer and all other standard office equipment.
Work Schedule: Typically, Monday through Friday. Occasional events on weekends and evenings.
Supervision Exercised: Supervision is exercised over student employees.

Qualifications and Competencies
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree; two or more years of experience in a theatre scene shop.
Preferred Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in theatre; three or more years of experience in a theatre scene shop; supervision experience in educational theater setting; experience working in a scene and wood shop; expereince in basic welding, painting, and carpentry; experience coordinating production and performance schedules.
