Summary of Position
The Legal Specialist receives all cases that require court action, reviews the case file to determine if all documents are present for court filing, and assists the attorney in preparing for court dockets. The Legal Specialist performs routine clerical and administrative work in handling mail, data processing and record keeping of the court team.
Essential Job Requirements
- Interfaces between the Establishment, Enforcement and Interstate Case Managers, other attorneys, Clerk of the District Court and Sheriff’s Department to facilitate efficient court activity and legal case management
- Contacts necessary parties as needed for court activity
- Generates all legal pleadings
- Assists attorneys with case management to ensure timely and proper case progression
- Ensures that the necessary federal and state elements are included in all legal filings
- Schedules hearings for attorneys
- Assists attorney in court when needed
- Provides customer service to child support staff and the community
- Performs data entry in METSS as needed
- Performs miscellaneous duties related to general case handling in all aspects of the legal system
- Regular and timely attendance
- Other duties as assigned
Required Education
Bachelor’s Degree, Associate’s Degree or Paralegal Certificate Required
Required Experience
- One year experience with the judicial process involved in the enforcement and establishment of child support orders preferred
- Excellent customer service skills
