Job Summary
The Direct Support Professional (DSP) plays a vital role in enhancing the quality of life for individuals with developmental disabilities. This position involves providing compassionate care and support to clients in various settings, including group homes and long-term care facilities. The DSP is responsible for assisting clients with daily living activities, implementing care plans, and promoting independence while ensuring a safe and nurturing environment.
Duties
- Assist clients with personal care tasks, including bathing, grooming, and dressing.
- Implement individualized care plans tailored to each client's needs and preferences.
- Support clients in developing social skills and engaging in community activities.
- Monitor and document client progress, behaviors, and any changes in health status.
- Ensure compliance with HIPAA regulations to protect client confidentiality.
- Provide assistance with medication management as directed by healthcare professionals.
- Facilitate recreational activities that promote physical and emotional well-being.
- Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team, including social workers and nurses, to ensure comprehensive care.
- Respond promptly to emergencies and provide first aid when necessary.
Qualifications
- Experience in senior care or working with individuals with developmental disabilities is preferred.
- Knowledge of long-term care practices and patient monitoring techniques is essential.
- Familiarity with care plans and the ability to implement them effectively.
- Understanding of HIPAA regulations to maintain client confidentiality.
- Certification in First Aid or CPR is a plus.
- Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate effectively with clients, families, and team members.
- A compassionate attitude towards helping others achieve their personal goals and improve their quality of life.
- Previous experience in social work or related fields is advantageous but not mandatory.
