Job Summary
The Foster Care Case Manager plays a critical role in supporting children and families within the foster care system. This position involves working closely with children, foster families, and various stakeholders to ensure the well-being and development of children in care. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in social work, child welfare, or related fields, with a passion for advocating for the needs of children and families.
Duties
- Conduct comprehensive assessments of children's needs and family dynamics to develop individualized service plans.
- Collaborate with foster families to provide guidance, support, and training to ensure a nurturing environment for children.
- Monitor the progress of children in care, ensuring adherence to service plans and making necessary adjustments based on evolving needs.
- Facilitate communication between all parties involved, including social workers, educators, healthcare providers, and legal representatives.
- Advocate for children's rights and best interests within the foster care system and community resources.
- Maintain accurate documentation of case notes, assessments, and progress reports in compliance with regulatory standards.
- Participate in multidisciplinary team meetings to discuss case progress and share insights on best practices.
Experience
- Demonstrated experience working with children or families in a social work or child welfare setting is essential.
- Familiarity with developmental disabilities and the unique challenges faced by individuals in this population is preferred.
- Background in child protective services or childcare is highly desirable.
- Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to build rapport with diverse populations.
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail are necessary for effective case management.
- Ability to accept feedback and adapt approaches based on individual circumstances and needs.
Educational/Supervisory Requirements
Minimum of one of the following:
- A doctorate or master's degree in social work from a college or university accredited by the Council on Social Work Education or a field related to social work such as sociology, psychology, special education, or counseling, with a student placement in casework services to children and families or one year of experience in providing casework services to children and families;
- A baccalaureate degree in social work or a field related to social work including, but not limited to, sociology, psychology, special education, or counseling and one year of experience in providing casework services to children and families; or
- A baccalaureate degree in any field plus two years’ experience in providing casework services to children and families
