What are the responsibilities and job description for the Fabrication Lab Instructor position at Youth Design Center?
Duties Will Include:Reporting to the Executive Director, the Fab Lab Instructor will work with Program Coordinator to develop/grow and manage all aspects of partnerships, outreach, and curriculum for the Youth Design Center primary and satellite fabrication labs.The Fab Lab Coordinator will establish new programs and build new partnerships in the community so they must have an "entrepreneurial" mindset, be able to work independently and be passionate about STEAM education and community servicePlan and manage STEM/STEAM programming in the Fabrication Labs for youth and adultsManage interns for day-to-day operations of planning/executing and marketing programsSupport survey administration and lead overall data collection for programsSupport grant management/reporting needs from the directorLead high level, engaging tours of the Center for neighbors, agency staff, government officials and potential or existing fundersMaintain interest in and knowledge of all technology used in the Center, as well as constantly engaging in research and education to stay current on technology integration into education for youth and community membersLearn basic equipment maintenance to keep technology working and available to coworking membersResponsible for the overall operation of the Fab Lab and the development of programs and services which meet the needs of apprentices, staff, coworking members and the communityThey will lead staff, apprentices, interns, coworking members. and volunteers working in the Fab Lab and manage their training on the use of the Fab Lab software, computers, and equipmentThe Fab Lab Coordinator will serve as a champion for the Fab Lab, promote the opportunities available through various venues in the area, and maintain partnerships with external organizationsThe Instructor will also establish protocols for safe and effective use of the lab and monitor and maintain optimal safety conditionsThe Instructor will be responsible for the maintenance of equipment, management of supplies and inventory, as well as scheduling and supervision of the lab and its staff and internsQualificationsEDUCATION & EXPERIENCE: Requires a technical degree (ME, CS, IT) and/or similar job experienceExperience with fabrication equipment such as a vinyl printer/cutter, laser etcher/cutter, CNC mill, 3D printerExperience working in or using manufacturing/industrial and rapid prototyping technology and equipmentProficiency with digital devices using MacOS and Google Suite.Proficiency with Adobe Creative CloudCreative, proactive, collaborative and strategic thinking.Passion for encouraging and working with creative youth.degree in engineering or other STEM-related field with significant technical experience and three years of recent Experience with image editing, CAD/CAM applications, and design softwareSupervisory and teaching experienceExcellent oral and written communication and interpersonal skillsProficient in common desktop applications (web browsing, Office, image editing, etc.)Ability to work in a team-based environment; demonstrated flexibility, initiative, and collegialityMust have strong general management, problem-solving, organizational, and decision-making skills, as well as technical knowledge, strong attention to detail, and a highly developed customer relations attitude and will have a background that is just as diverse and will be eager to embrace new concepts and technologies Ability to lift 60 poundsPatient, adept multitasker who loves to make thingsLeads as a proactive team player & displays a passion for helping people learn through discoveryAbout Youth Design CenterYouth Design Center is the first nonprofit, youth-led creative agency and maker space in East Brooklyn.
