POSITION: Youth Development Specialist
SALARY: $24.60-$27.69/hr.
REPORTS TO: Youth Development Program Manager
LOCATION: YDP, Nespelem, WA
Basic Functions: Non-Exempt. The Youth Development Specialist promotes student Indigenous scholarship, wellness, leadership, cultural identity, life skill development, college and career development, and overall academic and student achievement.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Education and Training:
- Typically requires an Associate Degree with emphasis in Social Work, Psychology, Human Services, or related field AND thirty-six months of experience related to working with youth in grades (K-12).
- Requires a valid state driver’s license and be eligible for the Tribes’ vehicle insurance and maintain throughout employment.
- Requires a CPR/First Aid card or ability to obtain within 90 days of hire and maintain throughout employment.
- Requires a negative TB test within 15 days of hire.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Requires knowledge in providing mentoring services in early intervention and to create youth goals to live a healthy lifestyle.
- Requires knowledge of Tribal codes, experience with Native American lifestyles, skills, traditions customs and social resources of the Colville Reservation, Washington State Education legislation, school systems, stages of child development, conflict resolution methods and safety practices and procedures.
- Requires knowledge and skills in basic math, including calculations using fractions and percentages, read technical information, compose a variety of documents/reports, facilitate group discussions, and analyze issues and draw conclusions.
- Requires skill in performing tasks in order to meet changing job conditions.
- Requires specific skills to satisfactorily perform functions of the job as: operating standard office equipment including software applications, preparing and maintaining accurate records/case management in confidential manner.
- Requires the ability to work independently and with others in a variety of circumstances in a respectful manner.
- Requires the ability to successfully perform job functions including: adapting to changing work priorities, communicating in a positive and inclusive manner, establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with youth families, partners and staff, work flexible hours, display patience and a sense of humor, advanced public relation skills, respond in a timely and professional manner, and maintaining strict confidentiality.

Note: Pursuant to Tribal Policy, if this position is safety sensitive it is subject to pre-employment drug testing. In addition, this position is subject to reasonable suspicion and post-accident drug testing.

If required of this position, you must possess and maintain a valid Washington State driver’s license and be eligible for the Tribes’ Vehicle Insurance. In addition, this position may be subject to pre-employment background clearances. If applicable, these clearances must be maintained throughout employment.
