YES’ mission is to serve homeless and at-risk youth by providing critically-needed resources which empower them to become self-sufficient. YES provides these resources to youth experiencing homelessness through trauma-informed support, develops leadership and employment readiness of youth and partners with youth to advocate for systems of change.
Compensation : $18 hourly
Benefits :Hours : Full-time Days - Monday-Friday, 9am-5pm
Day to Day
The Street Outreach Coordinator is responsible for the implementation of a completely youth-driven approach focusing on Strength-Based Case Management. This position is also responsible for performing Street Outreach duties focused on preventing the cycle of homelessness with education of programs and resources to best meet the individual needs of homeless and at-risk youth.
Responsibilities :
Assessing the physical needs of youth and providing basic needs services as appropriate, including first aid, food, hygiene products, community resources, clothing items, etc.
Demonstrating knowledge of community resources available to the youth for utilization in helping youth to meet their individual needs.
Reporting any significant problems or activities to the Street Outreach Lead.
Document all youth contacts, including any supplemental written reports as directed promptly. The Youth Street Outreach Worker will immediately report any significant problems or activities to the Youth Street Outreach Lead.
Participating in meetings, conferences, and training sessions as directed.
Complying with all YES policies and procedures, applicable federal, state, and local laws / regulations related to the delivery of services to youth.
Assisting in building and maintaining community support for outreach services by developing and maintaining relationships with the community, schools, churches, businesses, agencies, law enforcement agencies, etc. through education and advocacy for youth needs.
Advocating for youth in appropriate life arenas including interactions with family, law enforcement agencies, courts, and schools and by providing referrals for access to appropriate services.
Demonstrating an ability to use appropriate crisis intervention and problem-solving skills in providing basic services to youth.
Identifying unmet youth needs and gaps in services and assisting in securing resources to address those needs.
Implementing Case Plans and documentation.
Demonstrating flexibility with setting appointments for Case Management and providing transportation to job fairs, interviews, appointments, and other activities based on the youth’s individual Case Plan.
Demonstrating an ability to provide Case Management with youth aging out of the program and ensure that they are provided with resources for adult services to best prepare them for the transition.
Coordinating with the Metro Area Continuum Care for Homelessness (MACCH) for street outreach and training.
Attendance is an essential function of the position at all locations.
Other duties and responsibilities as assigned by Street Outreach Lead.
Skills / Competencies / Requirements :
Twenty-one years of age
Knowledge of child / adolescent development and pertinent issues affecting homeless youth and / or families.
Knowledge of the Homeless Management Information Systems (HMIS) database.
Excellent written and verbal communications skills
Acceptance and respect for diversity
Ability to develop and maintain working relationships with youth and their families, other staff, professionals, and law enforcement agencies.
Valid motor vehicle operator’s license, current auto insurance, and ability to transport program youth as needed.
Ability to complete minor to moderate lifting up to 30 lbs.
Ability to walk long distances in all types of terrain and all types of weather carrying an outreach backpack weighing 15-25 lbs.
Completion of through criminal history and background investigation, Motor Vehicle Record, and Drug Test required.
Education :
An associate degree or bachelor's degree in human service field such as psychology, sociology, social work, criminal justice, counseling, or related field preferred.
1 year of experience in outreach, youth development and / or case management in lieu of education.
Bilingual ability (Spanish) would be a huge asset to the nature of the population served.
