Field Instructor - Part Time
About:
Y.E.T.I. wants all young people to have access to outdoor adventure and time in nature. Our team of outdoor educators collaborates with schools, volunteers and young people to make this possible in communities of South King County. We have provided free outdoor school clubs, weekend trips, and custom programs for students in the Highline and Tukwila school districts for over a decade. Our outdoor programs foster a sense of belonging that helps develop the skills, confidence, and appetite for adventure to thrive in the outdoors and in everyday life. Description:
Our field instructors work with different student populations from public schools and community partners to facilitate adventures and support Y.E.T.I. operations. Strong candidates will have experience in youth-based outdoor programs, a passion for connecting young people to the natural world, the ability to build and maintain emotionally safe learning environments, experience working with diverse student groups, sound instructional skills, and a proven record of judgment and decision making.
Season: September 2024 - June 2025
Benefits: This position is a Seasonal hourly role with a pay range of $20-$30/hour depending on experience.
Schedule : Typical work week will be Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday from 1:00pm -6:00pm and Saturday. Averaging 23 hours per week.

Ideal Candidate
The ideal candidate will come with experience leading outdoor adventures, instructing outdoor skills. We will prioritize candidates who have experience working with youth in schools and with diverse populations. People who are flexible, organized and passionate about our mission will be excellent members of our team.
- Experience delivering outdoor youth programs
- Experience working with diverse student populations
- Valid driver's license and experience driving a trailer/willing to learn to drive a trailer
- Professional experience instructing in 1-3 of the following areas: kayaking, biking, rock climbing, hiking, camping, backpacking, snowshoeing or fishing and willingness to learn new outdoor instructional skills
- CPR and Wilderness First Aid training
Primary Responsibilities
- Create an emotionally safe space for students, volunteers, and staff
- Build positive relationships with young people
- Transport Students in Y.E.T.I. Vehicles to and from activities
- Facilitate outdoor activities with youth in public parks
- Support sound risk management
- Work with a team of instructors and volunteers
- Support Gear care and maintenance
- Other work opportunities as available and interested
