Description
Youth For Tomorrow is a 501 (c) (3) and a faith based, non-profit organization, founded in 1986 by Hall of Fame Football Coach Joe Gibbs. The organization is large, diverse, experienced and committed to serving at-risk youth.
Roles & Responsibilities
- Build a positive relationship with mentees based on trust, caring, unconditional regard, and individual strengths and needs.
- Provide training on various skills.
- Meet with small groups once per month or more depending on availability.
- Attend and participate in monthly Mentor Supervision meetings, as well as work related trainings and events as mandated by YFT.
- Assist students in problem solving and provide a creative outlet.
- Consult with Mentor Coordinator for guidance and direction for emergency and/or high risk situations.
- Must have good oratory skills due to possibility of testifying in court cases.
- All duties and responsibilities will support meeting the structured program of care outlined in DBHDS and DSS state standards (DBHDS: 12VAC 35-46-800; DSS: 22 VAC 40-151-720) and the Office of Human Rights according to standard 22 VAC 40-151-820.
- Attendance at all training mandated by YFT.
- Other duties as assigned by the CEO or Supervisors.
Required Trainings: First Aid/ CPR; Handle With Care: Standard Precautions; Emergency Preparedness; Shaken Baby; Mandatory Reporting.
Qualifications
- A high school diploma with 2-3 years relevant experience.
- Ability to communicate with children/adolescences openly and nonjudgmentally.
- Ability to establish relationships based on equal responsibility and respect.
- Practical problem-solving skills and ability to suggest options and alternatives, as well as display a high level of sensitivity to persons of different educational, economic, cultural, or racial backgrounds.
- Must pass FBI/CPS background checks, and current negative TB screening, and be seven years older than your audience.
