Schedule: Monday - Friday, 8:00 AM - 4:00 PM - Some weekends needed.
Position Overview
We are looking for a dedicated Assessment Counselor to join our team at the Illinois Youth Center. This role involves providing intake screenings, assessments, and support services to youth admitted to the Reception and Classification Units within the Department of Juvenile Justice.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct intake assessments and screenings for youth entering the Reception and Classification Unit, as well as additional youth as assigned
- Participate in case consultation and planning sessions
- Collaborate in multi-disciplinary staff meetings
- Facilitate referrals and discharge recommendations
- Lead educational and therapeutic group sessions for youth
- Maintain accurate documentation for assessments, screenings, and group activities
- Provide case management and coordination
- Contribute to staff development and growth initiatives
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree required
- Master's degree preferred
- CADC certification required within 2 years of employment
- Familiarity with DSM-5 preferred
- Knowledge of chemical abuse and dependence diagnostic criteria
- Strong understanding of substance use disorders
