Responsibilities
- Provide a Trauma-Informed and Positive Youth Development framework consistent with the values of Youth Service Bureau of St. Joseph County
- Provide crisis intervention, assessment, and screening services to youth at YSB’s Safe Station Shelter, Transitional Living Program, and Porch Light.
- Provide solution-focused/trauma-informed mental health treatment services, including but not limited to individual therapy, family therapy, group therapy, intake assessments, treatment planning, and risk assessments.
- Work in partnership with Safe Station Shelter Supervisor and TLP/PL Supervisor to ensure a youth-focused, trauma-informed, and positive youth development environment.
- Consult with Safe Station Supervisor on appropriate incoming placement referrals from mental health providers, courts, physicians, school systems, DCS, JJC and others as required.
- Facilitate community referral services for youth and families.
- Assist in monitoring on-site family visits.
- Track goal progress and collaboratively develop exit plans with youth and families.
- Provide accurate documentation of client interactions in a consistent, timely, ethical, and efficient manner.
- Complete, review, and evaluate clinical documentation of all clients which may include progress notes, intake/exit notes, DCS reports, incident reports, safety screenings, biopsychosocial assessments, and CANS assessments.
- Maintain required data and participant information in the YSB Data Management System, Homelessness Management Information System (HMIS), and KidTraks System.
- Assist in preparation for monitoring visits by funding and licensing sources.
- Included in the rotation to carry the on-call phone for Safe Station.
Knowledge & Ability
- Problem-solving, de-escalation, critical thinking, crisis intervention, understanding, and managing biases
- Understands and reviews best practices in providing services to runaway and homeless youth and their families.
- Ability to accurately assess situations and organize/implement care plans.
- Maintain appropriate boundaries and act appropriately in crisis situations.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to deal effectively in a sensitive manner with diverse populations.
Qualifications
Required:
- MSW or masters degree in psych, mental health counseling, equivalent
- 1 year experience working with families and at risk youth
- Problem solving, de-escalation, critical thinking, crisis intervention, understanding and managing biases
- Drivers license and auto insurance
- Technology Skills: Basic computer skills, Office 365
- Communication Skills: Must possess excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Leadership/ Behaviors: Knowledge of Positive Youth Development, Trauma-Informed Care, Adolescent Brain Development, as well as other various therapeutic techniques. Ability to deal effectively in a sensitive manner with diverse populations

Preferred:
- 3 years experience working with families and at risk youth
Important Information:
Pay/Salary: 65K-70K per year
Core Hours: This is a full-time position requiring flexible hours and will include evenings and weekends.
