Make a difference in the life of a child! Youth Advocates are primarily responsible for completing admissions, supervising and caring for the youth in residence, and providing an empathetic family-like atmosphere of mutual respect and trust. Youth Advocates establish professional relationships with clients and their families in a caring manner by taking an interest in each youth as an individual and dealing respectfully with their thoughts, feelings and choices. The Youth Advocate is responsible to help maintain a well-functioning, orderly, daily living routine to help the youths learn to accept structure and consistency in their daily lives.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Basic understanding of child development specific to the age range of the youth receiving service.
Basic understanding of positive behavioral management, recognizing the unique qualities of each youth and to help the youth to develop a positive self-concept. Ability to generate an atmosphere of supportive concern which encourages the youth to accept responsibility for his/her own actions, change, and growth. Ability to train youth, relevant to age, in the areas of basic day-to-day living skills including care of self, care of home, health, nutritional, economic and recreational need that are necessary to work towards independent living. Ability to establish open and effective communication and cooperative working relationships with youth and all staff members.
Organizational skills and ability to work effectively with a group of youth to maintain a well-controlled environment. A good command of the English language in verbal and written communication. Ability to follow written and verbal directions and to accept constructive criticism
Computer literacy
REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: High school graduate, and /or 21 years of age. Prefer two years of college in the area of behavioral science and/or equivalent experience and/or previous experience working with youth. Must be able to verify current Iowa Driver License and a safe driving record. Must be able to attain a Class D Chauffeur’s License. Pre-employment physical examination and as required. Clear child abuse registry check, public safety check, Federal fingerprinting and insurance company/motor vehicle report check. Obtain Medication Management, Mandatory Reporting and Relias Learning Classes which will be provided thru the agency.
Availiable Shifts: Overnight 11p -7a, 2nd Shift 3p-11p, Weekends all shifts & holidays a must.
