Provide leadership and coordinate the provision of comprehensive psychological services in order to support and promote educational objectives set for identified students. Adhere to federal and state laws, as well as, district policies, procedures and regulations.

Essential Functions

  • Develop and maintain a system to assure the timely assessment of students referred for psychological evaluation.
  • Work with assessment staff, related services staff and Director of Special Education to ensure proper coordination of efficient and timely evaluations and effective delivery of psychological services to disabled students.
  • Consult with other professionals to enhance psychological services to disabled students and ensure proper coordination with other educational services.
  • Conduct psychological evaluations and create psychological reports for students referred for emotional disturbance or autism.
  • Conduct behavior evaluations and contribute to the development of behavior intervention plans as required.
  • Consult with administrators, teachers, parents and community agencies concerning prevention / intervention strategies for student learning and behavioral problems.
  • Provide a range of psychological services at the campus level as required.
  • Serve on multidisciplinary assessment team and attend Admission, Review and Dismissal (ARD) committee meetings as appropriate.
  • Assume a leadership role in identifying needs and providing staff development or training related to the delivery of psychological services to disabled students.
  • Provide guidance and technical assistance to psychological supervisees as required by the Texas Education Agency (TEA) and the Texas State Board of Examiners of Psychologists.
  • Attendance at the work site is required to meet essential functions of the job.

  • Participate in professional development activities as required by the district.
  • Follow established safety procedures and techniques to perform job duties; support district / department goals.
  • Maintain a professional code of ethics and perform other duties as assigned.
  • Qualifications

    Licensure as a Specialist in School Psychology by the Texas State Board of Examiners of Psychologists with a Master of Arts (M.A.), Master of Education (M. Ed.), or Education Specialist (Ed. S.). Thorough knowledge of federal and state laws regarding the education of disabled students. Demonstrated skill in psychological assessment, consultation, and development of behavioral intervention strategies applicable to the educational setting.

    Mental Demands / Physical Demands / Environmental Factors

    Maintain emotional control under stress. Regular district-wide travel to multiple work locations as assigned; moderate lifting and carrying. May be required to lift and transfer students to and from wheelchair or assist with positioning students with disabilities. Texas / New Mexico driver's license, insurable by the district's auto liability insurance carrier. Subject to district drug and alcohol testing policy and regulation.
