Job Description:DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES :
Under the direction of the Dean of Student Support Services, provide general counseling services in support of the College's recruitment and retention efforts. The Counselor will provide personal, career and educational counseling to students. The Counselor will participate in orientation/counseling sessions, classroom presentations, workshops, assessment interpretation, outreach activities, evening assignments, and liaison duties with academic departments. The assignment includes curriculum development, development and assessment of student learning outcomes, professional activities, committee work, and utilizing intervention strategies in working with academically challenged students. In addition, assignment includes working with electronic processes such as Curricunet, Tracdat, Degree-Audit, etc., or similar systems.
Essential Duties Summary:ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
Assist students in developing educational and career goals, culminating in a student educational plan.
Teach counseling classes each semester as assigned, either in-load or extra pay.
Assist with the development of delivery systems using technology for alternative student services.
Confer with and advise faculty regarding matters of administrative procedure in such areas as admissions and records, articulation and course equivalency, and communication with other colleges and universities.
Administer tests and inventories to groups or individuals and interpret the results to counselees.
Develop and maintain close working relationships with instructional areas, outreach centers, feeder high schools, neighboring colleges and community resource agencies; articulate programs with feeder high schools; foster good high school/college relations.
Assignment may include evening and weekend counseling as well as services to outreach locations, including secondary schools.
Provide intervention strategies to increase the retention and persistence of students in general.
Assignment may include providing counseling services to special student populations (e.g. Athletes, ESL students, Veterans)
Assist students in analyzing their aptitudes and interests and to learn decision-making processes related to their academic and career planning.
Assist students in determining the best educational program for preparation for a chosen career/vocation;
Assist student with course selection and college activities to maximize the student's opportunities and potential.
Develop student educational plans that encompass both the course work and supplemental needs of students.
Develop transfer plans that meet eligibility requirements for 4-year colleges and universities.
Assist students with resolution of personal problems or provide them with appropriate referrals on campus or within the community.
Assist with the development of delivery systems using technology for alternative student services.
Participate in department, division, and college-wide committees and meetings.
Work in a collaborative and professional manner within and outside of the department.
Participate in the shared-governance process.
Complete all duties as assigned by the Dean.

Required Qualifications:
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: The successful candidate, by the final filing date, must possess the minimum qualifications at least one of the disciplines below. Please review the Minimum Qualifications Handbook to view the required qualifications to teach a specific discipline.
Master's in counseling, rehabilitation counseling, clinical psychology, counseling psychology, guidance counseling, educational counseling, social work, or career development, marriage and family therapy, or marriage, family and child counseling,
OR the equivalent.
EQUIVALENCY REQUIREMENT: All applicants are required to meet the minimum qualifications specified by the Yuba Community College District (YCCD) by the application filing date. Desired/Preferred Qualifications:EXPERIENCE/DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Community college counseling and teaching experience
Sensitivity to, and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students, including English as Second Language (ESL students).
Proficiency and currency with personality and career assessment tools/and related software applications, their administration and interpretation.
Experience developing and implementing programs and services associated with community college transfer centers, career centers and general counseling services.
Working knowledge of advanced forms of technology utilized in providing high-quality classroom instruction and online student services.
Excellent oral and written communication skills.
Ability to acquire knowledge relevant to advising student athletes (California Community College Commission on Athletics (COA) eligibility rules, National Association of Intercollegiate Athletic (NAIA) transfer rules, and NCAA transfer rules). Experience with structured educational programs such as learning communities, First Year Experience programs, and Math, Engineering, Science Achievement (MESA) program.
Physical Demands:
Range/Step: Class 2, Step 1 - Class 7, Step 10 (New Hires will not be placed higher than step 10).
