The Yuba Water Agency is recruiting for 1 Operator Trainee position within our Operations Division in the Power Systems Department. The position would report directly to the Operations Manager.Ideal CandidateThe ideal candidate possesses a genuine desire to serve the Yuba County community, exhibits curiosity to learn about the mission areas of the organization and a strong desire to learn and grow professionally. The ideal candidate can operate all power plant generation and transmission, and water control equipment associated with the operation, maintenance and repair of water supply, flood control, hydroelectric and recreation facilities and their various related components of the Yuba Water Agency’s facilities. The ideal candidate is skilled in problem solving can work independently and build and maintain positive working relationships with co-workers, other agency employees, government entities, contract providers and the public using principles of good customer service.Typical TasksInclude, but not limited to on a shift, operates all power plant generation and transmission equipment. Performs and directs switching in accordance with established Agency switching procedures. Works cooperatively with our Scheduling Coordinator to regulate the generation and water requirements as directed. Regulates irrigation, fish and flood water releases as required by the Agency in compliance with various regulatory requirements. Performs routine tests on automatic equipment and records all pertinent information of generation and water operations.Education/TrainingEducation: Sufficient education and training to demonstrate aptitude to possess and /or learn the knowledge and abilities listed above. Must possess basic math skills, and completion of Algebra is preferred. Experience: Experience in the field of power generation is preferred. License or Certificate: Possession of, or ability to obtain and maintain an appropriate, valid California driver’s license.BenefitsIn addition to hosting employee engagement events throughout the year and offering excellent training and development opportunities to help you plan your short- and long-term career goals to advance in your career, the Agency offers an excellent benefit package consisting of: 2024 Health Insurance rates: 1-party is $901.61, 2-party is $1,803.22, and 3 party is $2,448.89 per month. Any premiums in excess of these amounts shall be paid by the employee.2025 Health Insurance rates: 1-party is $991.78, 2-party is $1,983.56 and 3 party is $2,628.22 per month. Any premiums in excess of these amounts shall be paid by the employee.Dental: 100% paid coverage for employee and dependentsVision: 100% paid coverage for employee and dependentsVacation: Accrued at 12.6 hours per calendar month and increases with years of serviceSick Leave: Accrued at 10 hours per calendar monthHolidays: 12 official holidays per yearRetirement: CalPERS: For classic members 2% @ 55 formula and the agency will pay 5% of the employee’s 7% contribution to CalPERS. For all others, subject to the provisions of AB340 with a 2%@ 62 formulaRetiree health through the Agency upon completion of ten (10) years of service credit with the Agency and retirement from CalPERS. The Agency’s present contribution for each annuitant, including enrollment of his/her family members, is a maximum of $1,850 per month.Deferred Compensation: Voluntary participation in Agency Plans. The Agency will contribute 7.65% amount towards the plan.Life Insurance: $100,000Health Reimbursement Account (HRA) with Agency contribution of $600/year for 2024Flexible Spending Medical / Dependent Care Accounts available with pre-tax payroll contributionsEducational/training tuition reimbursement availableSpecial InstructionsApplications will be screened according to the qualifications outlined in this announcement.
