Position: Tampa QA Micro Lab Technician
Department: Quality
Reports To: Lab Manager

We are looking for a Laboratory Technician to perform routine lab work for our products. The purpose of the position is to effectively, efficiently, and safely meet all job requirements, abilities, accountabilities, and goals. Must be able and willing to work a variable shift depending upon brewery operations.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Ensure the timely sampling of all microbiological samples required on our Master Sampling Schedule
- Personally collect samples required
- Provide sample vials for samples collected by other employees
- Train other employees on aseptic sampling procedures/techniques and ensure they are followed properly
- Follow up on any missing samples – Make every attempt to collect said samples if possible
- Plate all samples and incubate according to the Master Schedule
- Evaluate all plates after incubation and record data in QA Micro Tracking Spreadsheet
- Provide data and your evaluation comments to the Plant Manager and all Department Heads at a weekly Micro Meeting in the QA Lab.
- Follow up with each Department Head on any samples determined to be Out of Specifications and work with them to devise action plans to address and eliminate those Out of Spec conditions.
Other Duties Include:
- Execute all daily quality duties in the areas of packaging, cellar, laboratory and sensory.
- Ensure the day-to-day operations of the lab are run according to the Quality SOP’s.
- Perform all analytical testing from beginning stages to end stages.
- Train to be cross-functional in analytical, microbiological, and organoleptic testing.
- Monitor aspects of fermentation, aging, filtration and packaging.
- Operate, maintain and calibrate laboratory instruments.
- Collect samples for laboratory and sensory analysis.
- Responsible for maintaining the QA lab in a clean and efficient manner with safety as a top priority.
- May be required to perform other duties as requested, directed or assigned by Supervisor.
Requirements
Skills and Qualifications:
- Understand safety requirements and use appropriate PPE for tasks.
- Ability to follow directions and SOPs.
- Good communication skills.
- Discretion with laboratory data. Due to the proprietary nature of information that disseminates from within the laboratory, confidentiality is a requirement that must be maintained.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
- Must be able to work in a team environment.
- Excellent computer skills (Excel, Flowmation, etc.).
Required Education and/or Experience:
- BS Degree in chemistry, food science, or other related field preferred, or equivalent experience.
- Prior experience with GMP/GLP, HACCP, ISO 9001, Safe Laboratory Operations, and/or a brewing education is preferred.
- The requirements of the position include previous experience performing microbiological and physical quality assurance in an industrial or food processing environment. Brewing experience, a plus.
Physical Demands:
- Candidate should be able to lift at least 50 lbs. and be physically capable of standing for long periods of time with the ability to kneel, stoop, crouch, or crawl.
