GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES
Under the direction of an assigned supervisor, this role provides intensive expertise and culturally informed instruction in Career and Technical Education (CTE), delivering training based on state-adopted standards. The position requires collaborative work with students, parents, staff, administrators, businesses, and community groups to enhance student training and employment opportunities, with emphasis on academic, social, and interpersonal career skills.
This is a generalist teaching position in Career and Technical Education (CTE) that welcomes instructors with expertise in various technical disciplines. Qualified candidates may specialize in areas such as welding, carpentry, small engines, STEM, career/lifeskills guidance, or other vocational fields. The role offers flexibility for professionals with diverse industry backgrounds to provide comprehensive, skill-focused instruction across multiple CTE domains.
This position involves frequent travel to rural sites in small aircraft, with some instruction occurring in residential in-town settings, including overnight student supervision.
QUALIFICATIONS
Education: Type M certificate minimum or ability to get one via industry journey level experience, a. Bachelor’s degree and teaching certificate preferred.
Experience: Teacher certification, or equivalent industry related experience or education.
DUTIES & EXPECTATIONS
1. Instructional Responsibilities
- Teach a variety of Career & Technical Education classes for grades 7-12.
- Maintain occupational licensure and certification as appropriate.
- Provide group and individual instruction utilizing effective teaching strategies, time management strategies, aids, and equipment to motivate students and make practical and effective use of instructional activities.
- Develop and implement instructional plans that allow students to meet established standards of student achievement and focus on basic workplace and job-specific skills in preparation for career placement.
- Provide instructional support and vary instructional methods to accommodate student needs, interests, learning styles, and ability levels; assist students in understanding concepts.
- Provide distance instruction as needed.
2. Program and Grant Management
- Provide support and instruction in implementing grant programs and initiatives.
- Provide project management for grant-related activities, including CTE vendors on as neededbasis.
- Perform basic grant tasks and budget oversight.
3. Student Support
- Assist in student recruitment and promotion for various YKSD CTE activities.
- Develop and maintain positive contacts with potential employers to assist with job placement.
- Provide assistance that is realistic in terms of current and future work specifications, making students competitive in the workforce.
- Provide support and instruction in developing student career portfolios.
4. Safety and Equipment Management
- Provide for the setup of CTE laboratories and work areas for ongoing work/projects; emphasize safety and teach constant awareness of safe work environments.
- Assist in maintaining supplies and equipment, including inventory, instructing proper use, and performing preventative maintenance and repairs.
5. Collaboration and Curriculum Development
- Collaborate in the design and planning process for curriculum that is hands-on, involves experiential learning, and integrates culturally relevant CTE activities.
- Participate on an Advisory Committee as needed.
- Collaborate with personnel from business and agency training entities to determine training potential appropriate to students’ interests and competency levels.
6. Assessment and Recordkeeping
- Evaluate student academic growth; keep appropriate records on the progress of students toward meeting established standards of achievement and performance.
- Prepare, maintain, and submit timely and accurate records, reports, files, and documentation for each student enrolled, including but not limited to diagnostic and assessment information, student goals and objectives, conference and contact notes from parents and other professionals, student progress records, attendance records, and state reports as assigned and/or required.
7. Professional Development and Engagement
- Attend and participate in a variety of assigned meetings, committees, conferences, in-services, and/or special events.
- Attend required training to fully develop YKSD’s CTE program.
8. Additional Responsibilities
- Travel frequently to remote sites to provide CTE instruction (by small plane).
- Establish, maintain, and manage standards of student behavior to achieve a functional environment conducive to learning.
- Develop program goals and objectives and derive appropriate methods for translating these into student performance competencies.
- Serve as a technical resource concerning the assigned program, function, or instructional area.
- Maintain a safe work environment.

PRIMARY WORKING CONTACTS
Administrators, teachers, counselors, students, and parents.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED
Receives oral and/or written instructions from assigned district office administrator(s). Responsible for the safety and supervision of students.
UNUSUAL WORKING CONDITION
Travel by small aircraft is required.
PHYSICAL AND MENTAL DEMANDS
The physical demands include: occasional lifting carrying, pushing and/or pulling; some climbing; some stooping, kneeling, crouching and/or crawling; and significant reaching, handling, speaking, writing, hearing, and fine finger dexterity; frequent standing, walking, and sitting. Manual dexterity and coordination sufficient to operate office, classroom and/or shop equipment. Must frequently lift, push, pull or carry up to fifty (50) pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to seventy-five (75) pounds.
