The Yukon-Kuskokwim Health Corporation is a Tribal health care organization, serving nearly 30,000 people living across rural, southwest Alaska in villages with populations from about 10 to more than 1,000. Bethel, the regional hub and location of the only hospital in the region, has a population of nearly 7,000. The Yukon-Kuskokwim Delta is home to thousands of lakes and two primary rivers—the Kuskokwim and Yukon.

Position Summary
The Patient Advocate represents the patients of YKHC. This position is responsible for customer service activities in the Patient Accounts Department, which includes helping patients find the resources that best meet their needs. The Patient Advocate receives and certifies payments, is an A-R transaction specialist, and helps patients interpret Healthcare Finance into practical information. The candidate brings with them a long professional history of patient access, billing, account resolution, denial management, and collections experience. Candidate must have the ability to adjust to an uneven flow of incoming workload. Must be able to demonstrate excellent time management skills and be able to set timelines and goals to ensure that all assigned duties are accomplished within established time frames. Candidate must have knowledge of all YKHC solutions.

- High School Diploma or equivalent. Bachelor’s Degree required
- Degree requirement can be waived on a year for year basis for a combination of education and experience
- Three (3) years’ experience in health care reimbursement and customer service experience
- Two (2) years’ experience with healthcare reimbursement
- Experience managing the collections, denials, and reimbursement of complex lines of business such as Long Term Care, Inpatient, Ambulatory Surgery, or Behavioral Health
- AAHAM CRCS-I/-P required or must be obtained within one (1) year of employment
- AMBA Medical Billing Certification Preferred
- HFMA CRCR Preferred
- Experience using office machinery including printers, photocopiers, fax machines, and multi-line phone systems
- IHS Tribal Billing knowledge required
- Experience with Cerner Millennium Revenue Cycle required
- College level course in Medical Terminology preferred
- Versed in Microsoft Office Suite
- Typing speed of 60 wpm
- 10-key calculator skills, by touch
- Ability to speak Yupik preferred
- Must be able to demonstrate working knowledge of the billing submission types 1500, 1450 (UB04), 837I, 837P, 837D
