PRIMARY FUNCTION: The Benefits Assistant is responsible for coordinating the administration of corporate benefit programs such as medical, dental and vision insurances, group life insurances, long term disability insurances, FSA / HSA programs, and employee leave programs.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
• Transcribes enrollment data accurately into vendor sites and payroll system
• Compiling enrollment materials and collaterals
• Provide general benefits assistance as needed to team members
• Coordinate benefit eligibility dates
• Process enrollments, terminations, benefit changes, salary and address changes as needed
• Process COBRA, HSA and FSA paperwork
• Reconcile vendor invoices against enrollment data
• Maintain benefits summaries for various contracts
• Assist with leading new hire orientation by presenting benefit offerings to ensure that new employees make informed enrollment elections
• Assist with the planning and coordination of open enrollment to ensure that benefit plan changes are communicated in a timely manner
• Complete projects as assigned by Benefits Specialist(s)
• Maintain benefit files
• Process tuition, military, and gym reimbursements
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
This job does not have supervisory responsibilities.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES:
• Advanced computer skills specifically using Microsoft Office Suite; ability to learn additional computer skills or software programs. Working knowledge of advanced software applications is preferred
• Ability to enter data accurately into databases.
• Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
• Ability to write routine reports and correspondence
• Interpersonal skills are necessary to work effectively and cooperatively with all levels of management and staff. Will also routinely interact with external contacts such as customers, vendors, suppliers, shipping companies, etc. Must represent the company in a professional manner at all times.
• Must be trustworthy – will handle confidential information routinely
• Must possess communication skills to clearly relay information to others.
• Ability to use general office equipment such as fax, phone, copier, scanner, printers, etc.
• Ability to follow a process.
• Strong professional customer service skills, including active listening, prompt service and follow-up.
• Analytical skills with the ability to evaluate data and consider decision impact across multiple areas.
• Strong decision analysis and problem-solving skills; ability to draw conclusions and justify decisions. Must be able to communicate issues to management.
• Ability to learn and understand corporate policies and procedures and how they relate to goals.
• Ability to perform basic mathematical computations
• High degree of self-motivation and the ability to work independently
• Ability to multi-task
• Desire to learn about the employee life cycle
QUALIFICATIONS:
• High School Diploma or GED Equivalent
• 1 years of recent experience in the Human Resources field
• Experience with Costpoint and Workday preferred
• Highly effective interpersonal communication skills
• Previous experience with union employees / benefits program preferred
