PRIMARY FUNCTION
This role will provide scientific, technical, and engineering support in the area human factors research and human-centered system development at the FAA William J. Hughes Technical Center located at the Atlantic City International Airport, NJ.
You will work under the mentorship of a senior human factors scientist to apply your understanding of human capabilities and limitations to the design, development, and evaluation of systems, facilities, and interfaces.
You will work both as a team member and independently supporting human-in-the-loop testing with data collection and analysis.
The ideal candidate will be someone that enjoys conducting research, is a creative thinker, is a great communicator, works well with others, and is able to solve complex problems in a constrained environment.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Supports human factors research and system development activities;
- Prepares and operates data collection equipment;
- Administers questionnaires and surveys; enters and validates survey data;
- Organizes and prepares data files;
- Reviews, transcribes, and summarizes video and audio recordings;
- Works under close oversight and frequent guidance by other human factors specialists;
- Planning and conducting human factors analyses, studies, and simulations;
- Developing and validating human factors metrics, methods, models, tools, and techniques;
- Reducing, analyzing, and interpreting human factors data; and
- Preparing and presenting human factors findings and recommendations.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
- This position has no supervisory responsibilities.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES:
- Strong verbal and written communication
- Ability to work both on a team and independently
- Demonstrated experience following procedural instructions
- Ability to pass a security background check and be authorized to work in the United States.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Must possess, at minimum, a bachelor’s degree from an accredited university in Experimental or Cognitive Psychology, or Human Factors.
- Must have a minimum of three (3) years of post-degree relevant experience working on research or system development projects.
- A Master's degree in an appropriate discipline will be considered equivalent to two (2) years of experience.
- A doctoral or Ph.D. degree in an appropriate discipline will be considered equivalent to four (4) years of relevant experience.
- Must be able to input, compile, organize, edit, and review data following protocols and procedures created by the research staff.
- Must be familiar with using Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint evidenced either through course completion, training or use in conjunction with a project.
- At least 1 year of relevant experience in using human-in-the-loop simulation platforms or human factors data collection tools and instruments within a project.
WORKING ENVIRONMENT:
A customer service-oriented environment requiring a high degree of efficient and effective performance. Adaptability regarding schedule and task changes is necessary to accommodate changing priorities.
