Under limited supervision, performs professional public health services of moderate difficulty in planning, organizing, and implementing public health programs; this position has Program Specific responsibility.
(Illustrative Only) Conducts nutrition and breastfeeding assessments for High Risk participants and provides evidence based counseling and specialized formula authorization; maintains reports, may create presentations and training materials; collaborates with Health Care Provider, as needed to ensure proper food benefits are issued; assists with the documenting nutrition/breastfeeding assessments, care plans and follows up in data base; may coordinate and/or facilitate nutrition education and training for new and existing program staff; may coordinate and shall participate in outreach activities; assists with observation of staff for compliance utilizing state WIC provided observation forms; maintains high standards of confidentiality and program integrity; may supervise assigned staff in the absence of a direct supervisor; maintains registration and required licensing credentials by completing continuing education units; works as assigned on a rotation basis, in permanent and satellite WIC Clinics within Yuma County WIC's geographical area; travels to community sites, facilities and institutions; regular and reliable attendance is required; performs other duties as assigned.
Bachelor of Science Degree in Nutrition or related field; Registered Dietitian and current state licensure as required; or RD eligible must take and pass the Registered Dietician exam within six (6) months of hire; two (2) years of increasingly responsible experience in the field of Public Health Nutrition or Clinical Nutrition; bilingual preferred; requires successful completion of a background check; must possess and maintain a valid Arizona driver's license; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Hourly rate for this position has been revised effective 07/07/24. Knowledge of: County policies and procedures; WIC program policies and procedures; current evidence based nutrition, breastfeeding and medical nutrition therapy; educational principles and methods; analysis and evaluation of nutrition data.
Skill in: Computers and use of designated software to conduct virtual services; maintaining records, charts and preparing reports; creating and executing successful nutrition presentations and educational materials; analyzing nutrition problems and counseling based on current evidence based information; establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with employees, agencies and the public.
Ability to: Effectively respond to phone calls, emails and complaints in a timely manner; plan, prioritize, manage and respond to multiple assignments in a fast-paced environment; read, write, research, synthesize data and detailed reports; use modern office equipment and computers; communicate effectively verbally and in writing; lift up to 5-25 lbs; perform the essential functions of the job specifications with or without a reasonable accommodation.
Work Environment: The usual and customary methods of performing the job's functions require the following physical demands: occasional lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling; some stooping, kneeling, crouching, and/or crawling; and significant fine finger dexterity; generally the job requires 60% sitting, 20% walking and 20% standing; working at a computer monitor for extended periods required; the job is performed under minimal temperature variations and under extreme likelihood of verbal abuse from hostile and frustrated customers.
