Summary
The primary responsibilities of resident/intern trainees are to provide competent, compassionate patient care, work effectively as a member of the health care team, and meet the educational goals of his or her specific program. Resident education involves supervised, progressively more complex and independent patient evaluation and patient management functions and formal educational activities. YRMC residents must meet the qualifications for resident eligibility as outlined in the Essentials of Accredited Residencies in Graduate Medical Education published in the American Medical Association's Graduate Medical Education Directory and as stated in the Resident Selection Criteria Policy of the Onvida Health Office of Medical Education.
Responsibilities
Initiate and follow a personal program of professional growth in conjunction with the formal educational and training of the residency or fellowship program sponsored by Onvida Health. This includes ensuring compassionate, appropriate and cost-effective patient care. Skills demonstrated by the resident should be commensurate with their level of training and responsibility. * Residents will participate in a structured competency-based education program that meets the current program requirements of the Accreditation Council on Graduate Medical Education (ACGME). * Appointment as a resident at YRMC is done via an annual agreement or contract which is renewable for continuation in and completion of the residency program based upon successful performance and progress. * While in the training program, all residents without exception will function under the supervision of a staff practitioner. * The training programs will be structured to encourage and permit residents and fellows to assume increasing levels of responsibility commensurate with their individual growth process in experience, skill, knowledge and judgment. Participate in the educational activities of the program and, as required, assume responsibility for teaching and supervising other residents and medical students. Perform procedures as required by individual programs, at first under strict supervision until competence is documented, then independently per GME policies. Meet institutional requirements with respect to medical records (see medical records policy). Participate in creating a positive learning environment with self and with others. Follow a personal program of self-evaluation and improvement as related to professional development as a physician. Be open to feedback as offered by faculty and teaching physicians on a continuous basis and be willing to offer constructive feedback to colleagues, peers, faculty, and staff. Participate on Onvida Health and medical staff committees whose actions affect resident education and patient care. These assignments may include: * The Graduate Medical Education Committee (GMEC) * Applicable Quality Improvement Committees * Applicable Patient Safety Committees * Resident Performance Review Committees * Institutional Learning Environment Committee * Participate in educational programs dealing with physician impairment, substance abuse and sleep deprivation. Other duties as assigned.
