Purpose Statement
The Exceptional Student Services (ESS) Compliance Coordinator is responsible for ensuring adherence to federal, state, and district regulations regarding special education programs. This role oversees compliance with IDEA, Section 504, and other legal mandates, coordinates documentation and reporting, and supports school teams in maintaining legally sound special education practices. Additionally, this position supervises and oversees compliance data technicians to ensure accurate reporting and compliance with state and federal mandates. The ESS Compliance Coordinator is also responsible for training teachers, administrators, and support staff on compliance requirements, documentation, and best practices in special education compliance. This job reports to Director, Exceptional Student Services

KNOWLEDGE is required to perform basic math, including calculations using fractions, percents, and/or ratios; read technical information, compose a variety of documents, and/or facilitate group discussions; and analyze situations to define issues and draw conclusions. Specific knowledge based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: behavior patterns of learning disabled children; age appropriate behavior; job-related codes/laws/rules/regulations/policies; methods of instruction and training; strong understanding of special education compliance, laws and regulations; Understanding of IEP process, assessment requirements and due process procedures.
ABILITY is required to schedule a number of activities, meetings, and/or events; gather, collate, and/or classify data; and use basic, job-related equipment. Flexibility is required to work with other in a wide variety of circumstances; analyze data utilizing defined but different processes; and operate equipment using defined methods. Ability is also required to work with a diversity of individuals and/or groups; work with data of varied types and/or purposes; and utilize specific, job-related
equipment. Problem solving is required to analyze issues and create action plans. Problem solving with data requires independent interpretation of guidelines; and problem solving with equipment is limited. Specific ability based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: meeting deadlines and schedules; managing multiple projects; adapting to changing

Essential Functions
- Monitors and ensures compliance with IDEA, Section 504, and district policies related to specialeducation services.
- Oversees and supervises compliance data technicians who support compliance efforts, ensuring timely and accurate entry, maintenance, and reporting of student data in accordance with federal and state requirements.
- Ensures timely and accurate documentation of IEPs, 504 plans, and special education records.
- Reviews and audits student files and compliance reports to ensure state and federal requirements are met.
- Facilitates IEP and 504 meetings, ensuring legal compliance and proper documentation of services.
- Coordinates and compiles data for district, state, and federal special education reporting requirements.
- Provides training to teachers, administrators, and paraprofessionals on a variety of topics (i.e., IEPdocumentation, compliance, goal-setting; legal requirements and special education law updates; procedures safeguards and due process requirements; progress monitoring and data tracking for compliance.)
- Oversees the collection and reporting of other assessment data related to students with disabilities.
- Provides guidance to school administrators and special education staff regarding compliance issues and regulatory changes.
- Assists in the development of district-wide special education policies and procedures.
- Investigates compliance concerns and supports state or federal corrective action plans as needed.
- Supports teachers of students with disability through observation and coaching; provides formal and informal individual discussions and feedback.
- Assists teachers of students with disability with data analysis and instructional planning.
- Participates collaboratively as a school leader in the area of the instructional improvement for students with diverse needs; Facilitates pre and post discussion for teacher observation of special education classrooms.
- Collaborates with principals, teacher, parent for the purpose of ensuring compliance with state and federal guidelines with assessment, evaluation and IEPs.
- Coordinates program components, support needs and materials (e.g., ESY program, college and reporting of data, etc) for the purpose of delivering services which conform to established guidelines.
- Facilitates meetings, processes, etc. (e.g., IEP meetings as needed, training/development and implementation of 504 plans, etc.) for the purpose of implementing and maintaining programs and services which achieve district and department desired objectives.
- Prepares a variety of program mandated reports (e.g. site report for teacher IEP compliance, data collection, etc.) for the purpose of ensuring compliance requirements.
- Presents information on a variety of topics (e.g. implementation of 504 plans, IEP compliance, etc.) for the purpose of implementing and maintaining programs and services which achieve district and department desires objectives.
- Researches a variety of topics (e.g. current practices, policies, education code, state and federal legal requirements governing special education, etc.) for the purpose of providing information and/or recommendations and/or addressing a variety of program requirements.
- Serves as a resource and/or mentor to ESS staff for the purpose of explaning procedures conveying and/or receiving information as needed to ensure the compliance of special education services provided.
