INSTRUCTIONAL COACH

Purpose Statement

The job of Instructional Coach was established for the purpose/s of building the capacity at the school site in the areas of leadership, instruction, assessment, communication, collaboration and culture toward increased student achievement for all students. The Instructional Coach will provide job-embedded professional development and support to school leadership and teachers to build the capacity of the school in their progress towards improving the school and increasing student achievement

This job reports to School Principal

Essential Functions

  • Assists school leadership for the purpose of developing on-going implementation of Professional Development opportunities for teachers.
  • Assists school leadership for the purpose of writing and implementing the school’s improvement plan.
  • Assists teachers in using various types of data for the purpose of informing instruction.
  • Assists teachers who are on intern certificates as well as teachers who are working for the purpose of meeting the status of “Highly Qualified”.
  • Coaches/Mentors teachers for the purpose of supporting school leadership in ensuring lessons and classroom activities to provide a variety of instructional strategies and grouping practices that engage students and allow multiple pathways for students to master the state academic standards.
  • Collaborates with ADE personnel for the purpose of fully supporting the State Intervention mission and vision.
  • Models And Demonstrates effective lessons for teachers for the purpose of improving teaching practices.
  • Participates and works cooperatively for the purpose of facilitating data discussions and professional learning communities.
  • Supports school leadership for the purpose of developing, implementing and evaluating school programs.
  • Supports teachers for the purpose of promoting consistent, systematic, focused and responsive monitoring of student progress.
  • Supports the school’s mission for the purpose of articulating a vision.
  • Works cooperatively with school leadership for the purpose of implementing Governing Board policies and procedures and administrative regulations.

Job Requirements: Minimum Qualifications

SKILLS are required to perform multiple, technical tasks with a need to occasionally upgrade skills in order to meet changing job conditions. Specific skill-based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: Demonstrated content expertise in core academic areas as specifically NCLA; Demonstrated effective instructional practices.

KNOWLEDGE is required to and analyze situations to define issues and draw conclusions. Specific knowledge-based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: Demonstrated knowledge of and experience with leadership theories and practices; Demonstrated knowledge of and experience with change processes; Demonstrated knowledge of and experience with school improvement processes; Demonstrated knowledge of and experience in effective job-embedded professional development.

ABILITY is required to Flexibility is required to work with others; Specific ability-based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: Demonstrated ability to use data to inform instruction; Demonstrated effective oral and written communication skills; Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with all stakeholders; Demonstrated ability to present effectively to large and small groups; Ability to develop and monitor curriculum guidelines, maps, and standard-based lessons; Ability to develop and monitor formative and summative assessments.

Responsibility

Responsibilities include: working under limited supervision following standardized practices and/or methods; directing other persons within a small work unit; and . Utilization of resources from other work units may be required to perform the job's functions. There is some opportunity to impact the Organization’s services.

Working Environment

The usual and customary methods of performing the job's functions require the following physical demands: Generally the job requires 60% sitting, 20% walking, and 20% standing. This job is performed in a generally clean and healthy environment.

Experience Job related experience with increasing levels of responsibility is required.

Education Masters degree in job related area.

Equivalency Five years’ teaching experience in a public school;

Employed as a teacher in a public school within the last three years;

Leadership roles in the areas of curriculum, instruction and teacher coaching;

Two years’ experience as an instructional coach;

Other comparable education and experience as deemed appropriate by the ADE selection committee.
