Position Summary:

YWCA Cambridge is a long-standing community organization dedicated to addressing critical housing needs and equity issues within our community. With a focus on providing housing, youth leadership programs, and advocating for social justice, we strive to create a positive and lasting impact on the lives of vulnerable women, children and families.


The Development Director plays an essential role in advancing YWCA Cambridge's mission of eliminating racism and empowering women by spearheading fundraising efforts and establishing strong relationships with donors, partners, and stakeholders. They will collaborate with our Fund Development Board Committee and other departments to grow and maintain a sustainable and diverse philanthropic revenue stream that supports our $3 million annual budget.


Reporting to the Executive Director, the Development Director is a key leadership position, responsible for shaping the organization's fundraising strategy and expanding our donor base to further our impact within the housing and human services industry. The ideal candidate is a captivating storyteller, a systems-level thinker, and a persuasive ambassador of YWCA Cambridge's 133-year commitment to its clients and mission.


Essential Functions:

Duties include but may not be limited to the following.

  • Establish and implement a successful fundraising strategy to achieve annual revenue targets, focusing on individual giving, corporate sponsors, grants and special events
  • Evaluate existing philanthropic giving and identify opportunities to triple its size across YWCA Cambridge and its related entities
  • Develop a robust donor pipeline of individual donors, corporate partners, foundations, and government agencies through prospecting, cultivation, and maintenance
  • Partner with program staff to craft compelling proposals and grant applications
  • Manage and plan annual fundraising events such as our Tribute to Outstanding Women, Giving Tuesday, and annual appeals to enhance donor engagement
  • Maintain and strengthen our CRM, ensuring timely and accurate entries, recognition, and compliance with donor reporting requirements
  • Develop fundraising materials, donor communication, and public relations strategies to enhance YWCA Cambridge's visibility and impact
  • Support the Executive Director and Finance in crafting annual budgets with ambitious yet realistic fundraising goals
  • Analyze and monitor fundraising performance and adapt strategy as needed

Qualifications:

  • Passion for and commitment to the YWCA mission of eliminating racism and empowering women
  • Proven track record of successful fundraising and revenue generation, preferably in the nonprofit sector
  • 5-7 years of experience in major gift solicitation, grant writing, and securing funding from various sources including corporate sponsorships, foundation and government giving
  • Demonstrated ability to build and maintain strong relationships with diverse stakeholders
  • Captivating storyteller with well-rounded verbal and written communication skills
  • Creative, innovative, self-motivated approach/mindset
  • Proficient in using fundraising software and CRM systems to track donor information, Microsoft Office Suite and Google Workspace
  • Strong organizational skills, detail-oriented, and the ability to effectively manage multiple priorities
  • Able to work independently and as part of a team
  • Bachelor's Degree in a relevant field (e.g. Communications, Business) preferred
  • Willingness to work flexible hours as needed

Salary : $90,000 - $105,000
