Job Title: Assistant Teacher
Reports To: Program Director, Head teacher
Supervises: Children
Works With: All Programs (ECE) Staff, Administrative Staff
Hours: Full Time 35 Hours (Monday-Friday)
Minimum Rate Per Hour: $15.50
Maximum Rate Per Hour: $16.00
Responsibilities:
Administrative:
- Assists in scheduling, program development, & teaching.
- May replace the Head Teacher for predetermined periods of time.
- Assists in planning, implementing, and evaluating classroom activities.
- Adheres to all ECE policies.
- Adheres to all NYS (Office of Children and Family Services (OCFS) regulations
- Addresses all problems, concerns, etc. with ECE director/2nd in command
- Addresses all problems, concerns, with staff accordingly, consistently and in a timely manner.
- Addresses all problems, concerns with parents/clientele accordingly, consistently and in a timely manner.
Program Development/Family Involvement:
- Work with lead teacher to set up orientations with parents/families
- Complete mandatory YWCA & NYS OCFS paperwork and keep up to date.
- Maintain up-to-date records on attendance, meal counts, child daily reports, daily health checks, child progress notes, and accident reports as well as all other appropriate records.
- Participates in staff meetings, training, professional workshops and conferences for educational advancement.
- Becomes familiar with and helps implement all program rules, routines, procedures and policies.
- Development of learning centers with guidance and support from head teacher
- Observes records and reports behavior of individual children in cooperation with the Head Teacher to parents. Assists parents in learning asic child care techniques.
- Works with children on a one to one small group or large group basis as requested by the Head Teacher.
- Assists in maintaining an orderly, clean, stimulating environment including the classrooms, bathrooms, kitchen & hallway.
- Supporting personal care, social integration, and health and safety matters.
- Works as a team with room staff and program staff
- Maintains confidentiality regarding all parents and children
- Attends all required trainings
- reports all suspected child abuse and or neglect cases to Head teacher
- Ability to read and interpret documents related to safety rules, Individualized Education Programs (IEPs), lesson plans, and classroom procedures.
- Assists with meals, snacks, and clean up
- Assists with attendance tracking, record keeping and reporting
- Serve as a dedicated professional role model for staff and parents at all times.
- Adhere to all YWCA and child care policies and regulations
- Recommends purchase of materials for classroom to ECE director.
- Help to assure vacancies are filled when requesting time off.
- Practices Active Supervision in the classroom
- Implements Social Emotional Curriculum with instruction from Lead Teacher.
Human Resources:
- Keeps all child care matters confidential in regard to children and staff
- Maintains documents as required by Lead teacher, OCFS regulations
- Maintains professional attire and demeanor
- Adheres to all OCFS/YWCA guidelines in regards to guiding appropriate child behavior/ child development.
Standards of Employment:
- Incorporates YWCA’s Mission into program at all times
- Represent the YWCA in a professional manner at all times
- Adherence to confidentiality, sexual harassment policy, electronics policy, code of ethic at all times
- Adherence to all policies regarding personal conduct as listed in the Personnel Policy Handbook.
- Participation & Attendance in Fundraiser events.
Minimum Qualifications Educational Experience:
- High School Diploma (or equivalent) required
- Organizational Skills
- Creative Skills
- Lesson Planning Skills Preferred
- Must have good Communication skills.
- Valid NYS driver's license preferred
- Position requires sitting, standing, bending and reaching
- May require lifting up to 50 lbs.
