GUTS! Program Coordinator
Non-exempt, Part-time 30 hours per week
Starting at $20/hour/DOE

How does this position make an impact on the community? The Family Housing Center team provides support through short-term emergency shelter in the Missoula Family Housing Center, case management and rental assistance for unhoused families to find and maintain safe, stable housing and achieve self-sufficiency.

The ideal candidate: Is passionate about the mission of the YWCA and:

  • Bachelor’s degree in human services or related field, or equivalent education/experience preferred.
  • Previous experience working with the GUTS! Program preferred.
  • Experience in facilitation, teamwork and project management preferred.
  • Experience working with youth preferred.
  • Experience leading outdoor trips preferred.
  • Wilderness First Aid or Wilderness First Responder certification preferred.
  • Ability to work cooperatively and effectively with other staff, agencies and professionals in the community.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with a variety of individuals, including peers, supervisors, team members, and participants.
  • Ability to speak comfortably in public.
  • An understanding of cultural nature of oppression and its effects on individuals, particularly girls, women, young people, people of color, indigenous people, and gender-diverse individuals.
  • Outdoor skills (backpacking, hiking, biking, backcountry, canoeing, etc.)
  • Ability to facilitate professional groups and planning processes.
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, writing and organizational skills.
  • Must pass a background check designed to protect the interest of individuals served by the YWCA programs.

Some of what you’ll do in this position:

  • Plan and implement of GUTS! programming for girls and gender-diverse youth ages 9-18 in the Missoula area. This includes school year action groups as well as summer camps. Coordinate partnerships with school personnel and Flagship Youth Development Coordinators to schedule and recruit participants for semester-long programs.
  • Communicate directly with parents, supporting volunteers, community partners, and school staff as needed.
  • Recruit, train, and support community volunteer group facilitators. This includes initial training, site visits, facilitator check-ins, and group facilitator meetings.
  • Write weekly volunteer and parent newsletters, make and deliver Activity Kits, coordinate guest presenters.
  • Facilitate one or more GUTS! groups on a regular basis. Provide fill-in support in the event of a facilitator’s absence when available.
  • Plan and facilitate GUTS! summer programming, which may include week-long bike camps, overnight camping trips, or backpacking trips. Due to programming changes stemming from COVID-19, we are currently offering bike camps with the possibility of additional programming in the future. Supervise activities and ensure the safety of summer participants at all times. Co-supervises summer staff and volunteers with the Youth Services Manager; provides feedback and redirection when necessary.
  • Market program in Missoula and other communities to recruit volunteers and participants. This includes the GUTS! social media presence on Instagram and Facebook.
  • Assist on program reporting.
  • Use evaluation tools (including surveys and short post-program interviews) and implement suggestions to ensure GUTS! is providing the best services possible.
  • Gather input on programs from GUTS! participants, volunteers, staff and community partners.
  • Research, update, and create relevant curriculum for all GUTS! programming.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Strong verbal and non-verbal skills, both with groups and interpersonally.
  • Must pass a background check designed to protect the interest of women and children served by the YWCA programs.
  • Highschool Diploma or equivalent diploma required.

What else you should know: This position is part-time, 30 hours per week. The base wage for this position starts at $20/hour – higher wage would be based on experience calculated using YWCA Missoula’s wage matrix.
