What are the responsibilities and job description for the Director of TechGYRLS Afterschool Program position at YWCA NETN and SWVA?
The Director of YWCA Tech GYRLS and Youth Education Services is responsible for planning, supervising and implementing a successful afterschool program and coordinate community youth services in accordance with the policies and mission of the organization.
Requirements: Minimum of Bachelor’s degree in related field and two years experience managing staff and working with youth in a group environment.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities
The Director of YWCA Tech Gyrls performs all of the following:
YWCA Tech GYRLS Afterschool Program
- Responsible for all operational aspects of the YWCA Tech GYRLS program
- Implement and maintain the LEAPs (Lottery for Education: Afterschool Programs) grant guidelines
- Maintain contracts and reports for the LEAPs, CACFP (Children and Adult Care Food Program), United Way and Speedway Children’s Charities grants to ensure continued funding of the program
- Maintaining daily meal counts, calculating and submitting monthly report to Bristol TN Schools and State of Tennessee CACFP and maintaining other documents as required
- Implement and maintain Tennessee Department of Education licensing requirements
- Manage state required personnel files for afterschool staff including training, placement and evaluating performance
- Meet with State of Tennessee Licensing and Food Program agents
- Responsible for all aspects of staff supervision to include but not limited to interviewing, hiring, training, annual evaluations, maintaining personnel files and training requirements in accordance with state regulations, etc.
- Supervises and support the afterschool assistants in the daily operations of the program to achieve program goals and objectives
- Research grant options to ensure sustainability through continued funding of the program
- Empowerment of Young girls
- Education to include math, reading, science and physical activity
- Maintain multi-age programs to include but not limited to:
- STEM ( Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics) Education
- Social Skills
- Introduction to Community Resources
- Empowerment of Young Girls
- Promote Healthy Lifestyles
- Ensure confidentiality in regard to program participants and families
- Maintain YWCA Hallmark standards of economic development for women’s programming
- Supervise and oversee volunteers ensuring a positive and impactful experiences
- Instruct/ Coordinate the YWCA Tech GYRLS curriculum within the guidelines of the YWCA Hallmark program standards as an economic development program and racial justice programming initiative.
- Oversees the basic upkeep of hardware and software specific to Tech GYRLS.
- Participates in conferences, training sessions, and networking meetings relating to areas of assigned responsibility
- Coordinate the Tech GYRLS pre and post testing each semester to reflect successful measurable outcomes in increased knowledge and interest in career development in the fields of science, technology, engineering and mathematics.
Youth Education Services
Areas of responsibility include but are not limited to:
- Maintain compliance with all State of Tennessee Department of Human Services Licensure Rules
- Supervise childcare staff
- Coordinates annual Week Without Violence campaign in the Bristol community with the school systems, United Way agencies, and churches to provide services to a minimum of 3000 students
- Represent the YWCA on the Bristol Youth Leadership Steering Committee
- Coordinate an annual YWCA community service project for BYL students
- Coordinate an annual Racism/Classism/Sexism Day at YWCA Bristol
- Performs other duties as assigned by the Director of Youth as needed to assist with YWCA community events that pertain to the program:
- Community youth fairs
- Empowerment summer camp
- Attends monthly Bristol community and other Tri-City area youth meetings as assigned
Program Management & Marketing
- Meets with the Director of Licensed Programs discuss program performance, actions, issues, resolutions and goals
- Maintains a positive, flexible and cooperative relationship with all staff, volunteers, children and parents and school counselors
- Promotes the program via flyers, articles, news releases and continued additions to the YWCA website
- Transports children in the YWCA bus for scheduled field trips, when needed
- Documents van usage and mileage
- Performs other duties assigned by the Director of Licensed Programs as needed to assist with YWCA Community events that pertain to the program
- Performs other duties as assigned by the CEO
Physical Demands
- Walking, standing, talking and hearing.
- Ability to sustain long hours of active work for 8 hours or more.
Mental Demands
- Ability to communicate effectively (verbal and written)
- Ability to maintain emotional control under stress
- Ability to remain alert and energetic for 8 hours or more
- Ability to lift 40 pounds
Travel
- Minimal. Some travel from facility to facility and trainings.
Other
- Other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the YWCA Director of Licensed Programs
