Housekeeper/Custodian
Position Summary:
As a member of the YWCA New Britain’s maintenance team, this position performs cleaning and preventive maintenance of the building, grounds, equipment, and property as assigned by the Facilities Manager. Candidate should support the YWCA mission: eliminating racism & empowering women; demonstrate cultural competency and the ability to work with diverse populations.
Performance Standards:
* Service, clean, or supply restrooms.
* Gather and empty trash.
* Clean building floors by sweeping, mopping, scrubbing, or vacuuming.
* Follow procedures for the use of chemical cleaners to prevent damage to floors and fixtures.
* Notify Facilities Manager concerning the need for repairs or additions to building operating systems.
* Clean and treat structures such as floors, sinks, walls.
* Clean and polish furniture and fixtures.
* Dust furniture, walls, machines, or equipment.
* Assist with monthly inspections – classrooms.
* Assist with responsibilities for emergencies and filling in while other maintenance employees are out.
* Perform other related duties as assigned by the Director of Facilities.
· Attend staff, personnel, and professional development meetings assigned, including, but not limited to, YWCA and staff meetings.
· Reliably meet deadlines.
· Manages time and attendance well.
· Follows the organizations policies and procedures.
· Follows safety policies, procedures, and regulations.
· Follows legal and ethical standards related to job responsibilities.
· Demonstrates proficiency in the necessary common and technical knowledge areas required for the position.
· Maintain and care for supplies and equipment of the YWCA.
· Accept other responsibilities and projects as assigned.
· Increases personal knowledge about individual, interpersonal and institutional levels of racism by actively participating in trainings and organizational or community-based committees.
· Seeks input from program participants of various backgrounds on program environment and program elements.
· Supports co-workers and works with diverse teams utilizing best practices to inspire better thinking and solutions.
Work Environment:
Working in various departments of childcare facility around children who must always be kept in a safe, appropriate, and hazard free environment. Regular exposure to cleaning agents and chemicals, which require on-the-job training to be used safely.

· Must have adequate vision to detect, determine, perceive, identify, recognize, judge, observe, inspect, estimate, assess. and adequate hearing to interact with the public. Must be able to carry 10-20lbs. Must be able to lift to 40 pounds using proper technique, standing, walking, bending, squatting, twisting, pushing, pulling, lifting, reaching, balancing, stooping and repetitive motion.
