JOB DESCRIPTION

Job Title: Thrift Store Associate

Program: YWCA Store

Reports To: Thrift Store Manager

SUMMARY: The role of the Thrift Store Associate is to work with the Thrift Store Manager and Warehouse Lead to accomplish the day to day operations of the YWCA’s Thrift Store. The primary responsibilities include, but are not limited to, assist in the daily operations of the retail floor, providing support for a positive, supportive training site, helping to process incoming donations to retail floor inventory. To ensure a unique shopping experience for all thrift store patrons.

ESSENTAIL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Customer Service
• Greet all customers and ensure they are being helped in a timely fashion.
• Find out customers’ needs and help locate the right merchandise.
• Answer customers queries regarding the store and the merchandise.
• Make suggestions and encourage purchase of products.
• Provide information about programs such as the clothing voucher program, housing services and outreach programs.
• Assist customers/donors with unloading/loading of items using proper lifting standards.
• Ensure customers are following proper COVID-19 preventative measures
• Cashier
• Receive and process cash, check and credit using a cash register and/or credit card reader.
• Provide change and receipts.
• Bag and/or package purchases.
• Count money, sort charge slips, and balance monies.
• Stay current on daily sales and/or future sale dates.
• Ask for “Round UP” cash donations from customers at check out to help with YWCA Shelter costs
• Answer phone, take messages, and/or answer questions in a professional courteous manner.
• Thank the customers/donors for shopping/donating at the YWCA Store.
• Receive donations and provide receipts to donors who request it.
• Assure dressing rooms are maintained and kept neat and tidy.
• PROCESSING
• Examine, clean, test, tag, price and/or look up items value on internet.
• Arrange and display merchandise in a timely fashion.
• Keep merchandise areas tidy and free from trip hazards.
• Stock inventory and pull outdated inventory.
• Learn pricing structure for Thrift Stores and help price textiles.
• TRAINING AND SAFETY
• YWCA Staff are expected to lead by example.
• Assist in training interns and volunteers on store policies and procedures and report to Thrift Store Manager about progress.
• Inspire and encourage volunteers and trainees to ensure high level or morale.
• Develop relationships with coworkers and trainees to contribute to group solutions. The effort put forward to make our company a better place to work for everyone.
• Train volunteers and interns with customer service skills, build relationships with customers, and make sure customers are welcomed when entering and leaving the store.
• RELATIONSHIPS
• Works as equal with all YWCA staff and may sit on program/fundraising committees as asked.
• Conflict mitigation/resolution skills necessary
• Must maintain positive working relationships with other YWCA staff, trainees, volunteers and administrative staff. Treating volunteers with the utmost respect, and ensuring the volunteers feel appreciated and welcome each time they come to the store.
• Floor talk should be limited to small talk and should never discuss private personal matters where customers can hear.

QUALIFICATIONS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily the requirements below are represented of the knowledge, skill and/or ability required.

• Experience working with non-profit programs is preferred.
• Experience in retail sales is desired.
• Proficient with the use of the internet and basic computer programs (Office Suite).
• Ability to work cooperatively as a team member.
• May be required to pass a background check for position.
• Proficiency with social media is preferred.
• Bi-lingual/Bi-cultural candidates highly encouraged

LANGUAGE SKILLS: Ability to speak effectively with staff and team members. Must be able to read and understand documents such as safety rules, operations, and instructions and procedure manuals.

MATHMATHICAL SKILLS: Ability to perform basic math addition, subtraction, multiplication and division. Ability to understand basic budgeting and how it affects the success of the program.

REASONING ABILITY: Ability prioritize, problem solve and make appropriate decisions.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Must be able to lift over 50 lbs. and be able to work at a fast pace.

WORK ENVIROMENT: The job is performed in a regulated environment within the building and may be in an outside environment for up to an 8-hour shift.

Job Type: Part-time

Pay: $17.25 per hour

Expected hours: No more than 30 per week
