Purpose:

We are seeking a compassionate Certified Peer Support Professional to assist and guide clients within the YWCA Recovery Program. The Certified Peer Support Professional will walk alongside the YWCA Recovery clients' journey by providing resources, ongoing one-on-one support, program strategy development and more.

Essential Duties:

Client Support:

  • Conduct regular one-on-one support meetings as a means of providing peer support for Recovery clients.
  • Collaborate with Case Managers, Therapists, and other members of the YWCA team.
  • Attend weekly staff meetings.
  • Provide effective resources for clients in their recovery of Substance Abuse Disorder.
  • Assist with the development of recovery strategies to be utilized within the Recovery program.
  • Coordination of Recovery client schedules and logistics.
  • Identify warning signs with clients and provide effective interventions/emotional support for client needs.
  • Respond to any client emergencies as needed.
  • Participation in on-call rotation. Ability to work on weekends and public holidays. 

Community Outreach

  • Collaborate with other service providers, businesses, government, and/or stakeholders as needed to provide services to clients.
  • Provide education regarding YWCA Recovery Program and services to service providers, outside agencies and entities in order to obtain steady referrals. 
  • Ongoing documentation of services and submission of necessary reporting to meet program and funding source requirements.
  • Evaluate and develop services as needed to address emerging needs.
  • Assure maintenance of appropriate records for program outcomes.
  • Ensure professional development training is met according to program and continuing education requirements.
  • Collaboration with other departments and staff.
  • Other duties as assigned to meet organizational goals.

Requirements

Education:

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Valid driver's license and own transportation.
  • Division of Mental Health certification requires as CSPS.
  • Lived experience with mental health conditions, substance abuse or trauma.
  • CPR and First Aid Certifications- to be obtained within 6 months of hire.
  • Crisis Intervention Training- to be obtained within 6 months of hire.

Knowledge and Experience:

  • At least one year's experience as a Peer Support Professional.
  • Knowledge of substance use, mental health and trauma.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Highly compassionate and attentive to detail.
  • Exceptional interpersonal communication skills.
  • Knowledge of recovery resources such as 12 step program and community support groups.
  • Proven ability to effectively and respectfully interact with diverse populations, including clients, co-workers and agency.
  • Experience in crisis intervention.
  • Strong customer service skills with ability to communicate in a professional manner with a wide range of people. Unequivocal commitment to pluralism.
  • Ability to exercise independent judgment and discretion when handling confidential and sensitive manners.
  • Strong time management skills; ability to take initiative to solve problems and work with minimum supervision.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and Google including Gmail, Work and Excel.
  • 1-3 years of experience in general office equipment (copiers, printers).
  • Accurate, organized and detail-oriented, with ability to work under pressure and shift priorities in response to changing needs.
  • Ability to keep accurate records and files.
  • Must comply with the organization's policy of automobile insurance: must have a valid driver's license and personal automobile insurance coverage.
  • Flexibility to change work hours as needed.

Physical/Mental Essential Requirements:

  • Walking, standing, bending, stooping, reaching, moderate lifting and carrying (up to 30 pounds).
  • Full range of body motion including manual and finger dexterity and eye-hand coordination.
  • Requires corrected vision and hearing to normal range.
  • Ability to sit at a computer work station for extended periods of time.
  • Occasional need to stand for long periods of time.
  • Ability to focus on detail and accuracy of work product.
  • Work is performed primarily in a non-smoking office environment, though travel may expose to employee to inclement weather conditions.
  • Occasional high stress may be experienced in dealing with clients, staff and volunteers.
