Position Title : Young Wonders School Age Teacher Mission : Committed to the elimination of racism and empowerment of women and children. Young Wonders Mission : Empowering young minds to cultivate relationships in a consistently responsive and emotionally safe environment. Objective : To provide a quality full day summer program in a warm, nurturing, safe, and loving environment where a sense of classroom community is fostered, independence and collaboration encouraged, and individuality respected. Responsibilities : 1. Offer a program that meets the emotional, physical, intellectual, and social needs of both the individual and the group. 2. Interact with the children and encourage their involvement in activities. 3. Prepare a warm and safe environment that is orderly, stimulating, challenging, clean and appealing. 4. Develop weekly written lesson plans, planning field trips and activities for children 5yrs-12yrs. 5. Provide assistants and aides with the opportunity to have input into the program while delegating aides, substitutes and assistants to ensure full program implementation. 6. Establish and maintain good communications with parents on a daily informal basis and through formal documentation upon parent request. 7. Assist in training, supervise and evaluate all support staff. 8. Meet and maintain a satisfactory score on the School Age Environment Rating Scale 10. Possess and understanding of behavioral issues that may arise with young children and work with administration to create behavioral guidance plans. 11. Have an ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment. 12. Maintain health and safety requirements mandated by the New York State Office of Children and Family Services, our licensing and governing agency. 13. Maintain necessary records and files. 14. Develop appropriate relationships with children of diverse backgrounds by treating all children with dignity and respect and by considering the child in relationship to his or her cultural and socio-economic background. 15. Participate in staff meetings, in service training, conferences, etc. as necessary. 16. Manage toileting needs of children including changing diapers when necessary. 17. Any other tasks or duties in which the job requires. 18. Act as Director’s designee when assigned. Reporting Relationships : Reports to the Director or Assistant Director of Young Wonders on matters regarding staff, children, parents or program. Reports to the Executive Director regarding any matters not sufficiently addressed by Assistant Director or Director. Include Director when appropriate. Requirements : Associate’s degree in Child Development, Elementary Education, Physical Education, Recreation or a related field OR School-age child care credential or other OCFS recognized credential specific to the school-age developmental period AND one year experience working with children less than 13 years of age OR High School Diploma or its equivalent AND two years direct experience working with children less than 13 years of age Ability to relate joyfully and sensitively to children and parents / guardians. Ability to pick up a child weighing up to 40 pounds. Evidence of emotional maturity and stability. Evidence of sufficient judgment to handle crisis situations and to use supervision constructively. Physical stamina Ability to maintain and keep appropriate records and files. Ability to supervise aides and other support personnel. Possess or be willing to obtain certification in Pediatric First Aid and Personal Safety and Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) and Automated External Defibrillator (AED). Job Type : Full- time Pay : $19.00 per hour Expected hours : At least 20 hours per week, additional hours may be required. Must be able to work on school closures and school early dismissals days. Schedule : Monday - Friday : 1 : 30pm- 5 : 30pm Hour may vary in the event of school closures and school early dismissals days.
