West Hartford Monday - Friday during school year 6:45-8:30 am and 2:45-6 pm

Flexibility with days and morning and afternoon shifts.


Seasonal role: August - June that follows the academic school year



Compensation: $20/hour


Position Summary:


Provide a supportive, respectful, safe and healthy environment for all children enrolled in YWCA Kidslink programs. Provide supervision for a team of Assistant Teachers in a positive work environment that reflects the YWCA mission. Lead staff team in a supportive and collaborative approach to all program duties and efforts including the execution of all aspects of the daily schedule; taking attendance, preparing and serving snack, organizing transitions to other activities and communicating with families. Monitor children at all times, paying special attention to behavior and reinforcing compliance with YWCA Kidslink Program standards. Initiate and implement planned activities geared to the developmental needs of a larger group of children.


Duties


Essential Functions of the Job:

  • Provide supervision to designated program staff to include: scheduling, personnel actions, coaching and mentoring, participating in hiring actions and completing payroll.
  • Ensure that all child and staff files are accurate and up to date.
  • Work with supervisor to complete any Corrective Actions needed in regards to OEC inspections.
  • Ensure that staff complete all training requirements.
  • Maintain an orderly safe, healthy, warm and inviting environment in accordance with licensing regulations and YWCA health and safety standards;
  • Follow defined State and YWCA protocols for reporting suspect child abuse or neglect, to include documentation, notification of OEC and DCF when applicable;
  • Establish staff schedules and contingency staffing plans to ensure adherence to state mandated staff to child ratios;
  • Work with the staff team to develop short and long term goals for maintaining a high quality program;
  • Develop and maintain positive working relationships with staff, families, peers and associates. Foster cross program/site collaboration, flexibility and cooperation;
  • Establish a culture where children and staff show respect and feel respected, with a constant focus on speaking kindly and using good manners;
  • Provide constant supervision and oversight of children while they are engaged in activities; provide support guidance and engagement while moving about the room providing supervision;
  • Ensure the implementation of appropriate behavior and discipline as defined by the YWCA and or school rules;
  • Lead the site staff in developing and implementing curriculum to meet the physical, emotional and intellectual needs of each child, activities should provide a balance of active/quiet, teacher led/ child led and be guided by YWCA's mission;
  • Ensure appropriate classroom behavior management, supporting children by providing positive guidance and redirection, implement individual Inclusion Support Plans , implement and support the Positive Guidance Policies of the YWCA;
  • Order equipment and supplies in accordance with YWCA financial guidelines;
  • Work with site staff to establish a predictable daily schedule , which includes times for adequate transitions;
  • Ensure the delivery of the snack and the health and sanitation of snack time;
  • Maintain student and family information in a confidential manner;
  • Maintain a clean and orderly program space;
  • Monitor outside play space to sure that it is safe, clean and well maintained;
  • Administer First Aid/CPR and medication in accordance with the Office of Early Childhood and YWCA policies and procedures;
  • Provide guidance and assistance to staff in the delivery of high quality programs and services;
  • Facilitate effective communication between staff and families in the resolution of issues or concerns;
  • Implement and monitor the consistent application of defined YWCA statements, policies and procedures;
  • Attend monthly Site Supervisor meetings;
  • Hold documented regularly scheduled staff meetings;
  • Model a degree of professional decorum and dress appropriate to the programs mission and values to ensure achievement of the same by staff members;
  • Remain current with trends, development and best practices in the field of child care and early childhood education.

REQUIRED: Education and Experience:

  

Education: 

· Option 1 At least three (3) credits school age or elementary education from a regionally accredited higher education institution OR 

 

 

· Option 2 A degree in any field from a regionally accredited higher education institution PLUS current (not expired) Connecticut State Department of Education elementary education teacher certification OR

 

 

· Option 3 A high school diploma PLUS completion of the 45 hours of school age / elementary education online training via OEC Registry account as designated by the OEC. 

 

 

 

 

Experience:

· At least two hundred and forty (240) hours of documented supervised experience working directly with a group of school age children in a licensed child care program, licensed youth camp program or an equivalent program as determined at the sole discretion of the office.

· 21 years of age or older;

· Basic knowledge of the principles of child development;

· Demonstrated ability to develop age appropriate exhibits and activities for classroom;

· CPR/First Aid certified or certification within two (2) months of employment.


Additional Eligibility Qualifications

  • Must be able to successfully pass both OEC and criminal background checks.
  • Physical required upon hire.
