Dates of operation: 6/23 - 8/15
Days: Monday - Friday
Hours: 7-6pm flexible schedules
Rate: $17/hour
Must be able to commit to the summer hours.
Description
YWCA Hartford Region is seeking highly motivated individuals to support our Summer Camp Program.
The Summer Camp Counselor will be responsible for the daily supervision of their campers, and in providing a supportive, respectful, safe and healthy environment for children enrolled in YWCA Summer Camp. The role will support the Director, Summer Camp in the implementation of activities geared to meet the developing needs of a large group of children and challenge the interests of the children in a productive and safe manner.
Duties
Essential Functions of the Job:
- Responsible for the supervision, programming and safety of campers assigned to their group;
- Create a climate in the group that will foster the goals and objectives of the YWCA;
- Report immediately to supervisor any evidence of child abuse including physical, mental, emotional and/or neglect;
- Consistently provide friendly, courteous assistance, exceeding customers’ expectations every day, which includes building and maintaining healthy professional relationships with parents, children, and staff;
- Support and contribute to a safe, clean environment for staff and customers;
- Is familiar with and carryout emergency procedures, building rules and regulations;
- Arrive on time for scheduled shifts, wearing appropriate uniform and nametag, and prepared for all assignments;
- Keep accurate, detailed records of incident reports and other necessary documentation;
- Participate in training and other professional development activities to enhance knowledge and understanding of racial justice and woman’s empowerment.
- Align programs and services both implicitly with mission of eliminating racism and empowering women; Provides a safe environment and program for all participants.
Responsible for guidance to those campers in daily living skills, with special attention to:
- Personal hygiene, safety & manners;
- Camper personal interactions with respect to others;
- Camper participation in all camp activities;
- Camper personal growth, self-confidence and independence;
- Other duties as assigned;

Requirements
Requirements
- Must be at least 16 years of age;
- Must possess values consistent with the mission of YWCA;
- Current certification in Standard First Aid and CPR for the Professional Rescuer required (YWCA can provide training);
- Must meet all state licensing requirements;
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
