Job Title: Resident Advocate
FLSA Status: Non-Exempt
Reports to: Director of Survivor Support Services
Job Purpose
To plan, prepare and serve nutritious meals to the shelter that meet the requirements of the Child and Adult Care Food Program (CACFP). Assist with meeting the needs of service recipients by providing support, information and assistance.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities
- Plan meals, coordinate food purchases/orders for all programming requiring meals, and for coordinated food events.
- Plan menus according to CADFP guidelines for needed programs.
- Maintain all CACFP paperwork, including menus, invoices/cost, and nutrition information.
- Maintain appropriate Safe Serve environment, including food temperature, FIFO food storage, appropriate sanitary conditions.
- Ensures appropriate storage and labeling of all food products, including open items and leftover food.
- Always wears plastic gloves when serving/handling food.
- Always wears appropriate hair covering(s) when serving/handling food.
- Cleans and sanitizes work areas and equipment daily and as needed.
- Completes deep cleaning tasks to maintain a clean environment.
- Cleans kitchen and pantry/food storage area to keep it clean and presentable.
- Serves all meals/snacks
- On-call duties as assigned
- Attend staff meetings and training as required and/or assigned.

Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Safe Serve Certification or willing to obtain within six (6) months of employment.
- Must be able to pass State Child Abuse/Neglect screening & Criminal Background Check.
- Experience cooking for large groups.
- Knowledge of health and sanitation regulations.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality.
- Ability to relate well to diverse populations.
- Ability to work unsupervised.
Working Conditions
- Forty (40) hour workweek with flexibility regarding days/times to meet program needs.
- Employee works in an indoor environment and is protected from weather conditions and contaminants.
- Work is primarily performed in a commercial kitchen environment which may include excessive heat and utilizing equipment (stove, knives, etc.)
Physical Requirements
- Standing up throughout the work shift, at least 90% of the shift, bending and stooping.
- Lift a minimum of 20 pounds repetitively throughout the day, potentially 10-20 times per day.
- Lift up to 50 pounds on occasion to put items away, potentially 5 times per week. Repetitive hand motion (such as typing).
- Ability, on a consistent basis, to perform activities requiring cooperation, instruction, persuasion or speaking with others.
- Ability to communicate effectively in person with consumers.
