What You'll Do

Join the team at YWCA Seattle King Snohomish, a leading nonprofit in the region dedicated to serving the needs of women, girls, and families. We're currently seeking a Gender Based Violence Outreach Specialist, a unique opportunity to lead the operations of all Health and Safety Community services and programs across King and Snohomish Counties.

 

The Gender-Based Violence (GBV) Outreach Specialist will play a pivotal role in fostering a safe and inclusive campus environment by raising awareness on campus providing education and supporting initiatives to address and prevent gender-based violence. This position will engage with students, faculty, and staff to develop outreach programs, promote campus resources, and support survivors of gender-based violence. 

 

Note: This position is fully onsite at RENTON Office and Collages 


Expectations of your role:
  • Outreach and Education 
  • Develop and implement educational campaigns, workshops, and events focused on preventing gender-based violence. 
  • Facilitate training sessions on topics such as consent, bystander intervention, healthy relationships, and recognizing signs of abuse. 
  • Collaborate with student organizations, campus departments, and community partners to expand outreach efforts. 
  • Create and distribute informational materials (e.g., brochures, flyers, social media content) to raise awareness about gender-based violence and available resources. 
  • Advocacy and Support 
  • Provide information and referrals to students, faculty, and staff who experience or witness gender-based violence. 
  • Support survivors in accessing campus and community resources, including counseling, health services, and legal assistance. 
  • Collaborate with campus Title IX coordinators and confidential advocates to ensure compliance with institutional policies and federal regulations. 
  • Program Development 
  • Assist in the creation and evaluation of campus policies related to gender-based violence prevention and response. 
  • Conduct needs assessments to identify gaps in campus services and resources. 
  • Develop innovative programming tailored to the diverse needs of the campus community. 
  • Data Collection and Reporting 
  • Maintain accurate records of outreach activities, training, and program outcomes. 
  • Contribute reports for campus leadership on GBV trends, program effectiveness, and areas for improvement. 
  • Ensure all documentation complies with confidentiality and data protection standards. 


Must have's to be successful:
  • Demonstrated understanding of the intersection of racism, homelessness, domestic violence, and social justice advocacy for those that are furthest from opportunities. (Specifically African American and other women of color)
  • Desire to work within an educational institution and facility, of college environment. 
  • Must have strong knowledge and experience in maintaining confidentiality
  • Proficient in Word, Excel, PowerPoint and outlook, and cellphone text
  • Knowledge of community resources within the great Seattle and South King County area
  • Ability and willingness to work independently and as part of a team
  • Must maintain 20-30 hours of continued education hours on advocacy in Gender Base Violence
  • Vehicle with valid WSDL; candidate must be able to travel independently between multiple work sites within a day


Hours, Rate, and Benefits
  • Hourly Rate: $26.50 
  • Hours: 40 hours per week
  • Excellent benefits package including medical insurance, retirement plan, plus generous vacation, holiday, and sick leave plans
  • At the time of hire, employees may enroll voluntarily in the Fidelity 403b Plan
  • After two years of employment, employees are eligible to participate in the YWCA Retirement Fund


Physical Requirements
  • Continuously sits for extended periods while performing desktop activities
  • Continually stands and walks in performing duties
  • Occasional weekend work may be required
  • Repetitively uses hands and wrists, fingering, handling, grasping, and reaching in using telephones, computers, kitchen equipment, donations, and supplies
  • Frequently reaches and grasps in using telephones, computers, fax machines and other office equipment and supplies.
  • Frequently stands, walks, sits, and climbs in performing duties in the office and in traveling to off-site meetings
  • Occasionally lifts and carries up to 5lbs. of paperwork, files, and training materials, occasionally up to 50 lbs
  • Occasionally lifts and carries up to 50 Occasionally kneels, bends, pushes, and pulls in obtaining files in drawers
*Continuously = Over 80% of the time * Frequently = 20-80% * Occasionally = Under 20%
