POSITION : Head Start Program - Family Support Worker (Social Work)
LOCATION : Miami (North Dade)
STATUS : Full-Time with Full Benefits
SALARY : $23.03 per hour, 40 hours per week, year round
- Must have Bachelor's degree in Social Work, or related field
Summary : Responsible for family services for enrolled Head Start families of center-based children in accordance with Head Start performance standards and guidelines. Also responsible for the recruitment enrollment and income eligible families as well as implementation of family quality support services, parent education and program governance as outlined in the Head Start performance standards.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
Carries a caseload of an average of 60 children / families.Works with teachers to complete documents for children / families.Oversees the recruitment, training, and scheduling of parent volunteers.Works with the Policy Committee representative and serves as a resource for the Parent Committee.Assists parents in developing and scheduling their own social and developmental activities and encourages and supports parents in addressing community needs.Secure resources required to meet the services / needs of children and their families.Serves as a resource to staff and parents to provide supplemental services children and their families.Assists families in determining individual needs and developing a plan to meet their needs.Keeps other agency staff apprised of parent issues, and assists staff in designing and implementing a comprehensive, well integrated plan for parent involvement that crosses all service areas.Works closely with the teacher and teacher assistant to establish a rapport between the parent and program to achieve maximum parent participation in the program and related activities.Assists with the recruitment of parents and community volunteers.Utilizes community resources to benefit children and parents of the program.Assists with the following monthly center committee meetings activities : setting up the meeting room with the teachers, conferring with center committee president about meeting agenda items; providing pertinent information to the committee and attending all parent meetings; collecting all parent meeting sign-in sheets and handouts; typing all parent meeting minutes and having then translated as necessary; helping develop and participate in all parent activities.Keeps accurate enrollment of children per classroom with up to date files on each including : completing Head Start enrollment forms; referral and follow up documentation; documentation of contacts made for the family, notation of contacts with the family, assists with maintaining a waiting list of 20% of possible enrollment at the center and identify children with the greatest need.Writes social service / parent involvement reports.Represents the agency in a professional manner at : meetings; training / workshops / seminars ; conferences; functions.
Requirements :
Education / Experience :
A Bachelor Degree in Social work, Human / Family Services, Counseling, Psychology or related field required with one-two years of related experience. Thorough knowledge of principles of social work, crisis intervention, counseling, or psychology which is typically gained through a minimum of one-two years experience through employment, practicum and or volunteering. Experience and / or knowledge or relevant Head Start Performance Standards. Knowledge of supervisory principles and practices and general knowledge of Florida licensing requirements for childcare centers.
Language Ability :
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization. Bilingual skills in Spanish and / or Creole required.
Requires level 2 DCF background clearance, certificate of Good Health and Tine test, and drug test.
