TEACHER’S ASSISTANT
REPORTS TO YWCA Director of Childcare
EMPLOYMENT STATUS Part-time, non-exempt, flexible hours during center’s hours 6:00am to 6:00pm, Monday- Friday
JOB PURPOSE/OBJECTIVE To assist the director and lead teachers in planning and implementing the child care program.
SUMMARY OF DUTIES/ACCOUNTABILITIES
- Provide professional representation for the YWCA with parents, children and staff
- Help facilitate activities and prepare, set up, and clean up supplies as needed.
- Interact with children on an individual, small, and large group level.
- Insure the supervision, care, and safety of children at all times.
- Maintain the center at or above YWCA, community, state, and federal standards.
- Complete necessary forms and documentation.
- Assist in preparing, serving, and cleaning up of snacks and meals.
- Assist in assuring sanitation standards meet all YWCA, State, and Federal requirements.
- Monitor daily health and behavior of children.
- Set an example of conduct and personal habits.
- Follow YWCA policies and procedures.
PERSONAL REQUIREMENTS/ABILITIES
- Be at least 18 years old
- Ability to pass a Washington Criminal Background check.
- Ability to drive and transport clients in agency vehicle when needed.
- Ability to work with diverse populations with an outgoing, friendly, equitable and welcoming manner.
- Ability to develop harmonious working relationships with all YWCA staff and the general public.
- Ability to give and receive information effectively, orally and in writing.
- Commitment to increasing cultural competency.
- Ability to project a positive and professional image of the YWCA to all the communities.
- Ability to perform duties and follow policies and procedures.
- Ability to bend, stand, sit on the floor, and run around with the children
- Ability to do light to heavy lifting and have good physical health and endurance
- Ability to use a computer and software appropriate for job requirements.
EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING REQUIREMENTS
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Have or obtain and keep current the following cards:
- First Aid
- CPR
- AIDS/HIV/Blood borne pathogens
- Washington State Food Handlers food handlers
- TB test cards
- Keep these cards current and comply with any other new requirements required by law or licensing officials.
- Complete STARS application and background check process through the MERIT system after beginning employment
- Complete required STARS child care basics training proficiently and on time
- Attend staff meetings and trainings
- Have an Early Childhood Education (ECE) initial certificate or equivalent by August 1, 2026 or within five years of being hired or promoted into this position, whichever occurs later
- Document professional development progress annually
