What are the responsibilities and job description for the Director of Housing Services position at YWCA Western New York?
The Housing Services Director oversees all aspects of a housing program. This includes property management coordination, tenant relations, compliance with housing regulations, and budget management. The Director will ensure the delivery of quality housing programming by developing and implementing policies, supervising staff, coordinating with stakeholders, and advocating for residents' needs within the community. This leadership role requires an understanding of serving individuals who are culturally diverse, under-resourced, as well as being skillful at navigating resource systems, developing collaborative partnerships and facilitating relationships to support the residents. The ideal candidate demonstrates critical thinking, problem-solving and strong strategic planning skills. Operating from a growth-mindset, the Housing Services Director can anticipate and pivot regarding evolving housing needs, contribute to identifying funding opportunities, ensure grant outcomes and deliverables are met maintaining sustainable housing operations.
Required Skills and Abilities
Operational Management
- Overseeing day-to-day housing operations, including tenant case management screening
- Managing property budgets and financial planning for housing programs
- Coordinating maintenance and repair activities, ensuring timely response to resident issues
- Monitoring compliance with housing regulations and laws, including inspections and reporting
- Represent the YWCA of WNY at community events and speaking engagements, as appropriate and directed by the supervisor
- Willingness to work flexible hours, including weekends
Strategic Planning and Policy Development:
- Designing and implementing housing policies and procedures aligned with organizational goals and applicable HUD 202 project requirements
- Analyzing residents’ needs to identify housing resources and develop strategies to provide appropriate support service
- Creating and overseeing long-term housing development plans
Resident Support and Advocacy:
- Addressing resident concerns, complaints, and conflicts in a timely and effective manner
- Facilitating resident engagement activities and community building initiatives
- Advocating for resident needs to government agencies and other stakeholders
Staff Supervision and Development:
- Hiring, training, and supervising housing staff including, case managers, and maintenance personnel
- Evaluating staff performance and providing ongoing development opportunities
- Supervise program staff, including providing timely evaluations, constructive coaching, and training opportunities.
- Maintain appropriate documentation regarding day-to-day staffing issues
Compliance and Reporting:
- Ensuring compliance with all applicable housing regulations and laws at the federal, state, and local levels
- Maintaining accurate housing records and documentation.
- Preparing reports on housing program performance and key metrics for senior management
- Ensuring activities and case management meet grant objectives
- Maintain documentation and data as required by funders, both physically and electronically
External Relations:
- Collaborating with government agencies, non-profit organizations, and community partners to access funding and resources
- Building relationships with local stakeholders and participating in relevant community initiatives
- Prepare social media posts including photographing activities and writing captions
- Attend meetings and/or training as required
- Will represent the Housing Services Department publicly including speaking to media outlets, at promotional events, with community stakeholders and on social media platforms.
Qualifications
- Minimum of a Bachelor’s degree is required in Social Work/Human Services, or related field with 5 years’ case management and supervisory experience
- Preferred Master’s degree in Public and Nonprofit Administration or related field with a minimum of three to five years’ experience in housing management
- Experience in housing management, preferably within affordable housing or supportive services
- Candidates must possess strong organizational abilities and the ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment
- Fiscal management expertise including budget planning and analysis
- Excellent oral and written communication abilities and interpersonal skills are required.
- Proficient in Microsoft Suite
- Dependable and flexible, with ability to quickly respond to changing priorities.
- Ability to be productive in a high demand position
- Must possess a valid driver’s license
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $50,000.00 - $58,000.00 per year
