Tool & Die Repair Specialist

General Description :
The Tool & Die Repair Specialist is charged with the responsibility of safely maintaining and repairing high quality production dies, weld fixtures, and patterns.
This job description is intended to be an overview of primary responsibilities for this position. All employees are charged with providing assistance in generally similar duties when management deems it necessary. Special projects and activities may also be created where employees’ talents can best be utilized. In addition, Client is a growing organization responding to an ever changing market. It is expected that tasks and requirements will change from time to time and employees will be asked to respond as needed and within reason.

Organizational Relationships and Authority :
The Tool & Die Repair Specialist reports directly to the Tool & Die Making Manager. There are no direct reports to this position.

Key Responsibilities
The primary responsibility of the Tool & Die Repair Specialist is to expertly replace worn components on dies and fixtures, sharpen punches, shims, and remove material. The standard for all equipment and tools used at GSM is that they perform as if they are new. Therefore, it is expected that all employees participate in safely maintaining equipment, tools, and their work environment.

Additional tasks include:

  • Measuring to close tolerances using a variety of measurement devices
  • Reading blueprints
  • Maintaining and repairing weld and assembly fixtures, stamping dies, and press brake tooling
  • Reading job travelers and complying with work instructions
  • Collecting product inspection results as required by inspection standards
  • Entering data to accurately complete transactions
  • Participating in continuous improvement initiatives and projects
  • Communicating and maintaining the safety, quality, and cleanliness standards set for the department
  • Using surface grinders, Bridgeport drill press, milling machines, radial drills, and lathes
  • Running production as needed depending on workload
  • Operating Bridgeports, CNC mills, and surface grinders

Job Demands and Expectations :
All employees at client are expected to update job knowledge on an ongoing basis by identifying and participating in functionally related educational opportunities. The company may require additional training as new equipment and technologies are introduced to the department.

Written Communication: English language both written and verbal understanding and reading comprehension sufficient to complete all job tasks.

Education :

  • Minimum High School Diploma or GED
  • Technical training certification (preferred)
  • VMC or CNC Technical Training (preferred)

Experience :

  • 60 months related experience

  • Hear within a range that enables normal telephone communication
  • See a computer screen within reasonable reading distance without strain
  • Type at a keyboard without discomfort for some of the working day
  • Move around the office environment and manufacturing floor comfortably in order to fulfill tasks required in various offices and departments
  • Lift up to 45 pounds independently
  • Bending at waist and neck
  • Working at shoulder height
