Job Summary
The Safety Coordinator is responsible for assisting project management teams to manage their safety functions, observing day-to-day operations while ensuring compliance with applicable state and/or federal safety standards, and conducting needed safety training and safety meetings.
Essential Functions
- Help with injury care and worker's compensation case management.
- Help projects track risk/loss and assist with project safety assessments.
- Meet with the project operations team and possibly the client to report or review findings on accidents, injuries, and preventive measures.
- Manage and implement on-the-job drug and alcohol program.
- Coordinate corporate DOT program and work with state DOT requirements.
Required Skills & Experience
- 6 months to 1 year of heavy highway construction safety management experience
- Associate’s or Bachelor's degree in safety-related discipline preferred
- Field operations experience is strongly preferred
- Knowledge of relevant equipment, policies, procedures, and safety strategies to promote effective local and state safety compliance
- Strong prioritization and organizational skills; detail-oriented
- Strong leadership skills
- Intermediate knowledge of Microsoft programs such as Excel, Word, and PowerPoint
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Must be able to conduct presentations to large groups in Spanish and in English
- Must be able to work nights
- Must be able to work weekends (in person as needed, or on call)
- Must have a clean driving record and pass a criminal background check
